Several OEMs have already released the list of smartphones and handsets that will receive upgrades on its operating systems (OS), particularly the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Motorola published its list of devices that will be receiving the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. However, the list does not include some handheld devices that consumers have been expecting.
Motorola's list of smartphones scheduled to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade includes: the 2015 flagship Moto X Pure Edition (Gen 3), Moto X Style (Gen 3), 2015 Moto X Play, Moto G (Gen 3), 2014 Moto X Pure Edition (Gen 2), 2014 Moto X (Gen 2) specific to Latin America, Europe and Asia, 2014 Moto G, Moto G 4G LTE (Gen 2), 2014 Moto Turbo, 2014 Moto MAXX, Motorola Nexus 6 and DROID Turbo.
Interestingly, the Moto E was not included in the list as well as the well-received Motorola Moto X (Gen 2) carrier versions. GSM Arena said that the Moto E, the carrier versions of the Moto X 2nd Gen and released only eight months ago, will not be receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, similar to the Gen 2 version of the Moto X.
Also not getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update includes the AT&T and the Verizon models. Not to mention the carrier unlocked version of the same phone getting the update.
This was confirmed by Motorola's Matt who was quoted as saying, "The carrier versions -- AT&T and Verizon -- will not get the upgrade."
A separate report by Tech Times claimed "The flagship phone from Motorola that is on the shelf for only a year" will not get the latest Android update. This decision will apparently not change as the forum clearly said that the tech giant has finalized the list."
Motorola also disclosed the following set of features listed as improvements:
- Doze Mode -- This new feature monitors your phone and puts it into a deep sleep when it's not being used, which can extend battery life substantially.
- Now on Tap -- We love Google Now, and it's improved in Android M. Simply long press the home button to bring up the Google Now feature and display information based on whatever you're doing at the time.
- Android Pay -- Android M allows you to bring up Android Pay with a simple tap and easily make purchases without having to open a separate app.
- Direct Share -- Share your photos, news, links, etc. with your favorite contacts easily and quickly.
- Simpler volume controls -- A more intuitive way to control ringtone and media volume.
