Motorola is likely to adopt Android 6.0 Marshmallow fairly quickly on a number of its top devices. These may include the Moto G 2nd Gen, Moto G 3rd Gen device, Moto X (2014) and Moto X Pure Edition (2015) - which was alleged in an article by Android Pit.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expected to see a wide release later this year. The exact launch date is still a closely guarded secret over at Google. Naturally, Motorola will not have first priority when Android Marshmallow is ready. That honor goes to Google's proprietary Nexus series. Two new Nexus devices are expected to be unveiled at a special Google event in San Francisco on September 29.
In the meantime, Google rolled out the third and last version of the developer's edition of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. That means the upcoming Android OS will be available soon.
Even so, it will take time for Android Marshmallow to reach most consumers. Major manufacturers including Motorola will need to integrate the new Android into their devices. Afterwards, domestic wireless service providers will need to run the obligatory soak tests before rolling out Android Marshmallow on a public scale.
Another thing to consider is that Motorola may decide to not update older devices to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. For instance, Geek Snack believes that the first generation Moto G and Moto X will not get the Android 6.0 update.
With Android 6.0 Marshmallow coming soon, Motorola seems to be skipping Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Fortunately, a number of Android 5.1.1 updates will make it to the Android Marshmallow.
This may be a welcome change for the majority of Motorola users still stuck on early versions of Android 5.0 Lollipop. Presently, the Moto G 3rd Gen has Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but only because the software already comes with the software.
