I could but I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the hashtag #ShoutYourAbortion trending on Twitter last night. Have we sunk so low, become so depraved that we now celebrate what was once a criminal act? And not in mere American terms, but in biblical terms? The Prophet Isaiah said, "Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb?" (Isaiah 49:15). Apparently so, since these women are brazenly shouting their crimes against humanity for all to see. We must confront the lies that makeup the faulty foundation for legalized abortion.
"It's My Body, My Rights!"
This is the only department of American society (so far...) where we openly allow people to not only inflict harm on themselves, but also murder on others because "it's their body, their rights." This is simply not true, nor is it right. First of all, while a child may be conceived and grow in a woman's womb, the growing child is not a part of the mother. It is not an organ or even a benign growth. It is a completely separate being.
Second, when druggies get caught by the police and say things like, "It's my body! I can do what I like with it!" or "I'm not hurting anyone!" they still get arrested. Why? Because they are inflicting unnecessary harm on their bodies and we all know it is indeed harmful to those in their lives. It's the same with those who attempt suicide. It's a crime for a reason. So why do we jail people for illegal drug usage and attempted suicide, whilst legalising abortion which is directly harmful to not one, but two people in a host of ways?
"It's a Leech, a Parasite!"
Someone started arguing with me when they saw my pro-life tweets in the#ShoutYourAbortion trend. They described unborn children as leeches and parasites who latch on to their mothers' organs and suck the life out of them against the mothers' will. She said that no one should have another life forced on them. I told her I was not aware (outside of the few rape cases that lead to conception) that anyone was held at gunpoint and forced to have sex. Certainly not on a frequent basis.
There are very few cases where a woman is forced to have sex and forced to conceive a child. And only a very small percentage of abortions are performed on those who were conceived through rape. (One abortion is still one too many, I just used the rape-conception example to demonstrate how flawed this argument is.)
I'll tell you just like I told that tweeter: Any human being of age knows that sex, even with contraception, can ultimately lead to conception. It's really very simple, if you don't want to get pregnant, don't have sex. And if you do have sex, then be prepared to suffer the consequences of your actions should you get pregnant. An innocent child doesn't deserve to lose its rights and its life simply because its parents were irresponsible (participating in fornication or adultery, etc.) or didn't find a baby convenient.
An unborn child is not a leech, nor is it a parasite. It is a living, breathing human being made in the image and likeness of God (Gen. 1:27) with a spirit and a soul, just like you and me. The only difference is which side of the womb the child is on.
"It's a Reproductive Right!"
Not it's not. My handy dandy Google Docs Define feature explains reproduction as the action or process of making a copy of something. An example would be, I don't know, a human being giving birth to a human being. Abortion, on the other hand, is the action of ending something that has already begun. In this instance, a life that was conceived through sexual intercourse. Thus, an example of reproductive rights would be any medical procedure regarding fertility, prenatal and natal healthcare, or something else along those lines. It would promote the health of both mother and child, not endanger it. To say that reproductive rights includes the destruction of life and the removal of the rights of the human being growing in its mother's womb is a misunderstanding or misuse of the word at best, and a blatant lie at worse.
No human being has the right to murder another human being.
"It's Legal!"
Everything Hitler did to the Jews, Slavs, Gypsies, blacks, etc. was legal. Everything the Roman Emperors did to the Christians was legal. And I'd also wager that much of what was done under the influence of Communism to its people was legal. Therefore, if that's the best argument we can come up with, then we have nothing to stand on. Absolutely nothing at all.
People (used to) say abortion should be "safe, rare, and legal," but abortion is never safe, certainly not rare, and should have never been made legal. We lock up every other murderer for their crimes. So why do we let those who allow, assist in, and butcher the unborn to go free? My heart is not to lock people up, yet rather to try and get the world, or at least America, to see that what is being done in these clinics is criminal, barbarous, and flat out inhumane. I leave you with the words of the Prophet Jeremiah:
Also on your skirts is found
The blood of the lives of the poor innocents.
I have not found it by secret search,
But plainly on all these things.
Yet you say, 'Because I am innocent,
Surely His anger shall turn from me.'
Behold, I will plead My case against you,
Because you say, 'I have not sinned.'"
(Jeremiah 2:34-35)
