Tekken 7 director Katsuhiro Harada teased the possibility of adding guest characters. Meanwhile, Bandai Namco maintains a veil of secrecy regarding the release date for the console edition of Tekken 7. It is rumored that the game will be available on PS4 and Xbox One in the future.
As of yet, Bandai Namco has not confirmed whether Tekken 7 will be available for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Currently, Tekken 7 arcade has been widely released in Japan.
Will There Be Guest Characters
On Saturday, a Tekken fan asked via Twitter if guest characters will be possible. Harada cheekily asked for suggestions. It is unclear whether the senior Bandai Namco executive was being serious.
A second fan jokingly suggested that Chuck Norris should a guest, to which Harada replied, "[Chuck] will destroy your console."
Guest characters are nothing new in the fighting genre. Titles such as Soul Calibur IV have added Star Wars characters Yoda and Dark Vader. More recently, horror icons Jason and the Predator graced Mortal Kombat with their presence. For reasons unknown, Bandai Namco has resisted the urge to do the same.
Though Tekken 7 arcade is starting to make a presence in North America, the console version release date is still unknown. However, some clues can be garnered from Bandai Namco's release record.
When Will Tekken 7 be Released to Console
Starting from Tekken 1 thru 5, the arcade-to-console conversion usually took about a year.
However, this schedule changed when Tekken 6 console was released two years after the arcade version launched. Unlike previous installments, Tekken 6 featured bigger stages and features. This complexity may have contributed to the delay.
There is no telling what challenges the team at Bandai Namco will encounter when porting Tekken 7 to the home console. Based on what has happened so far, a 2016 release date looks very unlikely. Even so, nothing is firmly set in stone.
