AMC's The Walking Dead Season 6 will have a suffocating beginning, says TWD star Lauren Cohan. The actress is better known for her portrayal as Glenn's wife Maggie Greene. Based on recent teasers, the next season will start with a new round of chaos featuring zombies and the mysterious Wolves.

Season 6 of The Walking Dead will air on AMC network on Oct. 11 at 9pm EST.

Lauren Cohan Shares Insight on Direction of Season 6

"I don't know if anybody has said this yet but we always joke that the writers write these amazing action sequences from air-conditioned offices," Cohan said with a hint of angst to EW on Thursday. "And I think this season is no exception and definitely rises above. We have the most suffocating beginning to the season that I've experienced yet."

Up to this point, the community has been well-isolated from the zombie apocalypse. That is about to change in the episodes ahead. A recent interview between Lauren Cohan and Entertainment Weekly revealed a tidbit of the chaos that will ensue.

Those who have seen the Season 6 trailer will notice the inevitable mass undead assault on the Alexandria Safe Zone. This was something that was also depicted in the comic series that inspired the show. Cohan also gave a bit of insight on this turn of events.

"And I think what's been really interesting is that you see us all kind of make strides in the direction of civility or civilization and a more regimented society," Cohan said. "And it's about being really challenged. So we'll see a ton of challenges and we'll see people the audience has been introduced to as very stable reliable characters crumbling, and I think it's going to be pretty scary."

Co-Star Steven Yeun Agrees

Cohan's sentiment echoed a previous interview by her colleague Steven Yeun, who plays Maggie's husband and fan-favorite Glenn Rhee.

"It's easy to use the buzzwords - to say 'roller coaster' or 'intense,'" Yeun said in an earlier EW interview. "I think last year was a very good indicator of where we're headed. We're seeing everybody as who they are now. You've found them grizzled. You've found them completely broken and shattered and they've all witnessed and experienced terrible things."

During Season 5, several cherished character were killed off including Bob, Beth and Tyrese. Noah was gruesomely torn to pieces by zombies as a direct result of Nicholas' cowardice. Later, Nicholas tries to kill Glenn to cover up the truth. As in previous seasons, the viewer's faith in humanity is continually being challenged. Naturally, characters including Glenn have gradually begun showing changes.

"And so you get to see them there. We wear it on our face. We wear it on our body. To see where we've evolved to is awesome. So [season] 6 is that, is showing how much has been taken away from us," Yeun elaborated. "The end goal is to find some semblance of life that we lost before. I think you're going to see some deeply emotional character story and you're also going to see, as we always do, some crazy-ass s-."

Will Deanna Monroe Go Crazy?

Also unclear is how Deanna will cope with the loss of her husband Reg.

Deanna is the female-adaptation of Douglass Monroe, who is the leader in the Alexandria Safe Zone. In the TV adaptation, Douglass's wife Reginna was changed to male character Reg Monroe.

Similar to the TV show's Reg, Regina has his throat slit by Pete - who was in a drunken rage. After Regina's death, Douglass begins to lose touch with reality. Eventually, the Alexandrian leader relinquishes control to main protagonist Rick Grimes, who is better suited to the realities of the outside world.

Deanna may slip into madness, and eventual demise in the impending zombie attack. The Season 6 trailer already revealed gruesome deaths. However, TWD showrunners may decide to keep her around a lot longer. In fact, anything is possible considering that there are major plot differences between the comics and the TV show.
