The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop release date updates for Motorola's lineup of devices remain missing at this time. It is a mystery as to why Motorola is withholding rolling out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. For now, some Motorola handsets have gotten the earlier Android 5.1 Lollipop. These include the Moto G 3rd Gen, Moto E (2014) and Moto E (2015). Also, Android 5.1 Lollipop is available on the unlocked versions Moto G 1st Gen and 2nd Gen.
A disproportionate number of carrier subscribers are waiting for Android 5.1 Lollipop, even though the firmware is already available. With Android 6.0 Marshmallow about to be released, this may very well be the last chance for carriers to roll out Android 5.1 Lollipop - if they are planning to do so at all.
Motorola Moto G 1st Gen, 2nd Gen
The Moto G series is expected to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop. Curiously, Motorola has released such an update for the 4G LTE version of the original Moto G.
Other Moto G variants that received Android 5.1 Lollipop include the unlocked Moto G 1st and 2nd Gen. These devices are sold thru Amazon and Motorola's online store.
The only U.S. carrier that has the Moto G in stock is Verizon, which has yet to announce plans for Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen
Unlike its predecessors, the Moto G 3rd Gen comes with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop preinstalled. The phone is currently being sold as unlocked at various U.S. merchants and retailers. At the moment, none of the major American carriers have this device in stock.
Moto E
Curiously, Motorola has already updated Moto E 2nd Gen to the Android 5.1 Lollipop. Verizon's version of the Moto E 2nd Gen has gotten the firmware updates as well.
In the meantime, the first gen Moto E has not gotten Android 5.1 Lollipop. The Moto E represents Motorola's budget line. In fact, the device can be had for as little as $179.
