After a disastrous one-year stint with the Los Angeles Lakers that further pushed his critics to believe that Linsanity was a temporary fad in 2012, Jeremy Lin has signed with the Charlotte Hornets during the NBA off-season.
The 27-year-old Jeremy Lin and former Harvard University standout is looking at fresh opportunity with the Hornets and is being groomed to be the team's starting point guard to help star player Kemba Walker in both scoring and facilitating, reported the Christian Post.
In a separate report by Chinese web site Yibada, the Hornets is still confident there is still some spark left with the Linsanity rage even if Lin has shown a steady decline the past three NBA season. Still Lin is contributing above average statistics with an average of 15 points and five assists per game.
Lin has a 44 percent shooting percentage from the field and 34 percent from the three-point area. Coupled with his playmaking skills, Linsanity could be a big boost for Charlotte, team insiders said.
According to reports, Charlotte is looking to create its offensive and defensive strategies revolving around Walker and Lin. With his speed and agility, Walker could dominate the opposing teams' secondary units and act as an explosive backup guard. Lin's height could give the team an advantage and can play as starting point guard to direct the offense and at the same time boost the Hornet's offensive rhythm.
Walker averages 30 points per game with the Hornets but he also misses plenty of shots. The 25-year-old guard has a 39 percent shooting percentage.
Lakers Trying to Woo Yi Jianlian After Losing Linsanity
The loss of Linsanity creates a big dent for the Los Angeles Lakers, not only for its current line up, but also marketing and advertising wise, reported Movie News Guide. Plagued by injuries, led by its star player Kobe Bryant, the Lakers finished the 2015 NBA season the worst in its franchise history.
The only good thing for the Lakers during its disastrous last season was Linsanity who generated much-needed publicity for the team that helped in marketing and revenues because of his global following.
But with Lin's departure, the advertisers and sponsors, including Asian giants like Maxxis the Taiwanese brand of tyres, that comes with him will also be gone.
To counter the advertising revenue loss from the Asian market, the Lakers is trying to woo Chinese basketball player Yi Jianlian as replacement of Linsanity. But aside from hopes of attracting the same publicity that Lin generated, Yi Jianlian is also a talented player. Jianlian has won Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) title thrice and has been part of several clubs in NBA.
