Destiny 2 rumors continue to abound despite indicators that Bungie is not working on a sequel anytime soon. In fact, developers already have years of DLC material that will be released for the current original Destiny videogame.
Where Rumors Began, and Why They May Be Bogus
According to a report by Cinema Blend from last year, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg reported that there are plans for another game set in the Destiny universe. He stopped short of elaborating on whether this title is spinoff or successor to the current game. This led to speculation that Destiny 2 was in development.
Due to the fact that Bungie pledged ten years of support for the current game, rumors of Destiny 2's existence seem unlikely at this moment. Also, the developer is already planning a series of DLC that will reveal more of the Destiny universe in the years ahead. Hence, this leaves very little time for Destiny 2 to be developed.
Destiny 2 Leak May Be a Hoax
In late July, a poster on Reddit claimed that Destiny 2 will be titled "Destiny: The Shattered Sun." The same individual also said that the game will be released on September 2016.
"You will still be using your current characters. It will focus heavily on Osiris and his endeavors as he is the main quest giver in the game. A new form of enemy is said to be in development, possibly Ahamkara," the rumor states.
This is not the first time alleged Destiny leaks have been circulated on the internet. A Forbes contributor questioned the authenticity of the recent Destiny 2 rumors, pointing out that much of the leaks were suspiciously similar to information already revealed in the Taken King DLC promotions.
Destiny 2 may eventually be announced by official sources. So for now, gamers will need to take the recent Reddit rumor with a very healthy grain of salt.
The Taken King Gameplay Teaser Released
Meanwhile, avid Destiny players can look forward to seeing new gameplay content that was revealed in the latest Teaser released by Bungie. The video shows the protagonists doing battle with a rival Cabal invasion force that is holed up within The Taken King's stronghold. Gamers also got a glimpse of the map and new bosses that are to be included in the DLC package.
The Taken King DLC will be release to players on September 15, 2015.
