The official release date of season 3 of NBC's American crime drama TV series The Blacklist is on October 1, and this early, we are promised of a much darker season with Elizabeth 'Liz' Keen, (Megan Boone) and Raymond 'Red' Reddington (James Spader) running for their lives from the very same side of the they swore to uphold and protect during the first two seasons of the show.

The show was originally scheduled for premiere on September 24 but NBC decided to delay its release to make way for the premiere episode of Heroes Reborn, a remake of a previous TV series titled Heroes.

Movie Plot has recapped season 2, revealing some hints about what should we expect for the upcoming season.

  • Liz still has real feelings for her fake husband (Tom)
  • Liz was framed by The Cabal for the murder of Senator Hawkins and joined Red on the FBI's Most Wanted list after shooting and killing Tom Connolly, which triggered the memory from the night of the fire
  • In this memory, Liz supposedly shot her father (to protect her mother)
  • Red didn't erase her memory of the fire to protect himself, but to protect Liz from the memory of what she had done
  • Liz's mother, Katarina Rostova, was a Russian spy, is probably still alive and likely is going to be very important to how things unfold in season 3

However, there was no real evidence that Liz's father actually died during the shooting. In fact, there are still speculations that Red is her biological father despite some romantic hints between the two

It will be very interesting how the story of Liz and Red plays out.

According to Master Herald, Boone said in a recent interview that viewers should expect something different when The Blacklist returns for its new season. She promises different dynamics amongst the characters, particularly with the law enforcement aspect of the show.

"Season 3 is going to be the same characters but a different show, a very different topic," said Boone, "Because now Liz Keen is no longer working within the law.'' When the Blacklist season 3 returns, Boone also told Zap2it in a separate interview that the next season is going to be a very different show. "If you break open the entire task force, then it will be challenging to try to find the procedural aspect of the show again,'' Boone said.

The latest leak from season 4 indicated that Liz and Red will come face-to-face with a criminal whose nickname comes from the Islamic mythology - the Djinn, in the fourth episode.

NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt also promised big changes in season 4 of The Blacklist. He was quoted by Realty Today as saying, "The trajectory of the story is great, because it's a switch-up from what the format has been," and added that "it's a different feel this year.'' He further said that the show is heading towards "a really fun, new direction."
