The second installment of Man of Steel still has no official release date, nor DC has tabled its production in its calendar. But we are receiving rumors that Mad Max: Fury Road director will be directing Man of Steel 2, the sequel to the 2013 take on the popular franchise, Superman.
Rumors of Miller directing the next Man of Steel installment emerged after Jon Schnepp - the filmmaker behind the recent documentary The Death Of Superman Lives, hinted on an episode on Popcorn Talk that Miller was tapped to be at the helm.
"George Miller is doing Man Of Steel 2," Schnepp said and added, "I don't feel weird about breaking it."
However, Den of Geek expressed doubt over the report because the Man of Steel project is on a "permanent hold," citing sources inside DC and Warner. Indeed when Warner announced its slate of DC movies that are currently in production and planning to release next year, including Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Suicide Squad , Wonder Woman, Justice League, and The Flash, the Man of Steel's sequel was not included.
The report said that while Miller could be in discussion with Warner Bros., the talks is speculated to involve future DC movies with no specific title in mind as of yet. The source also added that Miller will be taking only projects that interests him and if his or the casts availability would permit.
No word from DC to confirm production for the Man of Steel 2 except some announcement that the project is "in development" but there is clear date set in stone when will it begin or if it ever will be.
Another rumor surfaced that Warner is set on producing another trilogy of Batman starring Ben Affleck to follow-up on the Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Reports said Affleck himself will direct and co-write the still untitled Batman reboot.
In a separate report, Movie Web said that Miller was also tapped to direct the Justice League Mortal in 2007 that was due for release in 2009 before the project was shelved. According to the report, the bosses at Warner were happy with the box office result of Mad Max: Fury Road, which was shown this summer, and now wanted Miller to direct the new movie about the man from Krypton.
Warner Bros. is reportedly so happy with the success of Mad Max: Fury Road that they have decided to reward Miller with the job of directing Man of Steel 2.
The first Man of Steel movie was directed by Zack Snyder and there were early indications he will also be calling the shots for its sequel. However, the plan has changed after Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice was introduced and will hit the screen in the spring of 2016.
Now it was reported that Snyder will be directing Justice League Part 1 and Justice League Part 2, which will not give him the time to direct the Man of Steel sequel. But this gives an opening for Miller to take the helm of the upcoming Superman movie.
