Kelly Clarkson was singing her anthem Piece by Piece, a song about her relationship with her dad, during a concert at the Staple Center in Los Angeles Wednesday night when she became suddenly emotional.
Clarkson, the former American Idol winner, then told the audience. "I wasn't planning on announcing...I'm totally pregnant," reported USA Today.
The revelation came was not planned, Clarkson insisted and added she felt she had to make the announcement after she was not able to control herself from crying.
But "I was crying, and I didn't want you to think I was crazy," she said. The pop star admitted that not even some members of her family are aware that she is expecting her second child. Clarkson has a daughter with husband, talent manager Brandon Blackstock named River Rose who was born in June 2014.
A portion of Piece by Piece's lyrics said, "I would never leave her like you left me/She will never have to wonder her worth/Because unlike you, I'm gonna put her first," that moved Clarkson to tears.
Honestly I'm so hormonal today. Nothing's wrong, everything's great," she said. "I haven't vomited yet."
Dustin Vanzant Televison production professional and Audience Coordinator, quickly posted a video of Clarkson's announcement via his Twitter account, @DustinVanzant. He wrote, "So....@kelly_clarkson is pregnant!!! Congrats and much love Kelly!"
Even the Staples Center could not hide their excitement over the news and the fact that Clarkson chose the venue for her announcement.
"We think that is a first for an artist to announce that she is pregnant during a show from our stage! @kelly_clarkson #PieceByPieceTour," Staples Center posted on its Twitter account.
Clarkson and Blackstock married in October last year. Blackstone has two children from his previous relationship.
Clarkson first shot to fame when she won the inaugural season of the defunct music talent show American Idol in 2002, said CNN.
Since then, Clarkson has established herself as one of the most popular singers in the U.S. with hits, including Stronger, Since U Been Gone, and most recently, Heartbeat Song.
