The Voice Season 9 is adding more celebrity power as it adds R&B singer Rihanna and pop princess Selena Gomez as advisors to the coaches who will train the contestants on the popular show.
Robert Greenblatt, the Chairman of the entertainment section of NBC, has confirmed that Rihanna will be the chief advisor for coaches Gwen Stefani, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams, during the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Beverly Hills, reported E! Online.
"We landed Rihanna to be the key advisor to all the coaches this fall," Greenblatt told reporters and added, "This is one of music's true supervisors coming on board to influence the lives and careers of the performers." He also described Rihnna as a great performer and singer who would be a great contributor to help the participants grow.
Rihanna still has not issued any statement about her incoming appearance in the next season of The Voice as he is currently busy working with Def Jam records. Rihanna was awarded the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for being a fashion icon in the showbiz industry.
Selena Gomez to Advise Gwen Stefani
Rihanna is not the only celebrity who will be gracing Season 9 of The Voice. We reported earlier that Sheldon, Stefani and Pharell Williams will get assistance from new mentors John Fogerty, Missy Elliot, Brad Paisley, and Selena Gomez in the next season as celebrity mentors who will help the contestants develop their singing techniques.
Each of the new mentors will be teamed up with one of the original mentors, the report said.
Coach Stefani will collaborate with pop sensation Gomez in honing the singing prowess of their team. Gomez is also expected to draw in fresh viewers from the show and provide additional glamour to the already star-filled reality show.
"I always feel like when I'm in the presence of someone older than me, I have this respect and I love that I can learn. I want to learn from people, I want to be around women who are, you know, nurturing and care and smart and creative," Gomez told Access Hollywood commenting on working with Stefani. She added, "It's just incredible to me to think of somebody that's been doing it since they were a child..The dedication and the years that she's put in, and to [not] only be so young, but have so much experience, is kind of incredible."
Coaches Adam Levine will be partnered with Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater. The partnership should be a breeze as Levine is a self-confessed classic rock fan, and Fogerty, well, in a rock band.
Williams will be teaming up with hip hop legend Missy Elliot, who will share their expertise to their respective teams. The two have been working together for some time now so chemistry will not be a problem. Both Williams and Elliot have established impressive rapport during all their collaborations which could a great advantage for his team.
Award-winning country singer Blake Sheldon will be getting fresh support by fellow legendary country artist Brad Paisley to give advice to his team.
The release date of The Voice Season 9 is on September 21.
