iOS 8.4.1 may be coming this month, according to the latest rumors. If that were true, iOS 8.4 jailbreak users may soon face having obsolete firmware on their devices.
iOS 8.4.1 is Making Some Jailbreakers Nervous
Apple's development is surprisingly fast considering that the iOS 8.4 was rolled out in June on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. On July 1, TaiG released untethered jailbreaks for both iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4.
Initially, the jailbreak community was expecting to enjoy having the same firmware as everyone else until the iOS 9 release date. However, Apple surprised everyone with iOS 8.4.1 announcements just two weeks after TaiG's launch.
A number of jailbreak groups including Pangu were convinced that iOS 8.4.1 will address security exploits from iOS 8.4. For now, iOS 8.4.1 is under development.
Apple Testing Final Beta for iOS 8.4.1
While it is difficult to predict exactly when Apple decides to roll out iOS 8.4.1, it is still possible to make educated guesses from available information.
Apple will need to release iOS 8.4.1 before iOS 9. There are signs suggesting that iOS 9 will be released this coming fall. Apple is expected to host an event on September 9, where is will unveil its latest products. Many observers in the rumor mill believe that iOS 9 will be released shortly after that event.
GottaBeMobile predicts that iOS 9 will be out by mid-September, which means iOS 8.4.1 will be introduced later this month. If this information turns out to be true, jailbreak users will only have less than a month to enjoy using the same firmware as other Apple device owners.
Will iOS 9 Be Jailbroken?
In June, hacking group Keen Team told Forbes that iOS 9 will receive a public jailbreak later this year. The group has no history of jailbreaking, but has cracked iPhones in the past. Forbes reports that Keen Team has actively been reaching out to Team Pangu, which has jailbroken iOS 7 and 8.
Earlier, a number of Apple watchers predicted that iOS 9 may spell the end of jailbreak. This assessment was based on the widely touted Rootless security feature. The apparatus apparently blocks access to certain protected files, regardless whether the user enjoys administrative-level clearance.
It is uncertain whether Keen Team and Team Pangu will collaborate on a potential iOS 9 jailbreak. Presently, iOS 9 is only available in beta form to participating developers who have registered with Apple.
