A Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon promotion will feature new Nintendo 3DS Cover plates featuring art from the upcoming videogame. Also, a recent leak reveals the new Mega Evolution feature that may put an end to the walk-through-walls cheat. Meanwhile, the Pokémon Z release date continues to be a mystery.
Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon is expected to debut in Japan on September 17, while the North American release is set for Q4 2015. Pokémon gamers in Europe will need to wait until early 2016 to get their copy of the game. The upcoming title is the sixth in the long running Mystery Dungeon spinoff of the Pokémon gaming franchise.
Custom Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon Plates Coming to 3DS
To celebrate the launch of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Nintendo is coming out with a series of limited edition plates that shows official artwork from the game. Nintendo Life kindly posted the beautiful cover on their site.
Nintendo has not said when the plates will go on sale, or whether it will be exported to the overseas market. Even so, foreign consumers can still use the web to buy products straight from Japan.
Mega Evolution May End Walk-Through-Wall Cheat
Serebii translated a recent leak from CoroCoro of Japan that revealed a new function in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. The new Mega Evolution feature allows players to evolve more powerful Pokémon that have the ability to smash walls.
According to Neoseeker, Action Replay users and hackers have long used the ability to walk through walls in the Mystery Dungeon series. The new feature in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon may soon render this cheat moot.
Will Pokémon Z Ever Be Released?
For now, it seems that the so-called Pokémon Z exists solely within the wishful thinking of diehard fans. The fabled successor to Pokémon Y was originally rumored to be unveiled at E3 2015. Aficionados were naturally disappointed when this did not happen.
During E3 in June, iDigitalTimes asked Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's Executive VP of Sales and Marketing, why a new core Pokémon game was not announced.
"There's no particular reason I'm aware of," Moffitt answered. "One year, for example, people got used to a March or Spring Pokémon time frame and then we moved it to a Fall time frame in October. So we did different things with the Pokémon franchise this year."
Nintendo is currently promoting its Yokai Watch series to western consumers for the very first time this year. The popular Japanese title follows gameplay similar to that of Pokémon, but players capture ghosts to do battle instead.
