The Witcher 4 will not be getting a release date anytime soon, according to its developer CD Projekt Red. Also, main protagonist Geralt will not be returning to the series. He last appeared in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which debuted May 19 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Meanwhile, Witcher 3 has just received the new patch 1.08.
Witcher 4 Currently Put on Ice
In the September issue of Game Informer, CD Projekt's CEO Marcin Iwinski confirmed that his company has not started on Witcher 4.
"It deserves some rest. The past 10 years the team has been working on swords and castles and medieval Slavic monsters," Iwinski explained. "So I think it's time for some guns, androids, and some ammo. And a necropolis. So this is what we'll be working on."
Currently, CD Projekt Red has been busy with Cyberpunk 2077, an upcoming RPG set in the dystopian future. Teasers show armored cops attempting to take down a murderous female android. Apart from this video, CD Projekt has remained mum. In May, the company told Reuters that they will not openly discuss Cyberpunk 2077 until 2017.
Meanwhile, DC Projekt Red has no plans to release new installments in the Witcher series on an annual basis.
"We definitely are not annualizing a franchise or anything - it's about the experience," Iwinski insisted. "The world of 'The Witcher' is gigantic and it's great to tell these stories, but I don't know when this will happen."
Happily, Witcher fans will soon be seeing two massive DLC expansions that are due sometime in the future. The first expansion is going to be on the same scale as Witcher 2, according to an earlier report by Game Reactor. For instance, there will be at least 10 to 20 hours of gameplay.
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Gets New Patch
Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red has just released Patch 1.08 for The Witch 3: Wild Hunt. This development was confirmed via Twitter on Friday by Community leader Marcin Momot.
The update fixes performance issues - some of which may have been introduced by Patch 1.07. New content includes Wolven Hour potion that reduces the level requirement on gear for one hour. Also, Patch 1.08 lays the foundation for Witcher 3's upcoming New Game Plus mode.
