Amid overwhelming support from national prayer leaders, Roma Downey's hit show Answered Prayers is being upped to prime time, now airing at 8/7c each Sunday night on TLC.
"We are humbled by the support of so many national prayer leaders, and thankful for how this show is inspiring so many to pray again. Now, at 8PM, it'll give many more families the opportunity to watch it together," the award-winning producer and actress said in a recent press release made available to the Gospel Herald via email.
The six-part Answered Prayers series, which is hosted by Downey and produced by LightWorkers Media, features the true stories of people who have prayed to God when they are in perilous situations. The gripping accounts are told through interviews, actual footage of the events, and dramatic reenactments.
During last week's 60-minute episode, a teacher shared her harrowing experience driving over a collapsing bridge while a Chicago woman revealed how she found the love of her life.
This week, viewers will hear the heart-wrenching story of a college student who was involved in a terrible pole-vaulting accident, and of a Detroit pastor who was stabbed by an attacker 37 times.
In a recent interview with the Christian Post, Downey revealed that she visited churches across the country to collect the miraculous stories.
"We could probably run for 20 years with the amazing stories that we have," she said. "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous. 'Answered Prayers' is a reminder of the power of prayer. It reminds us that we're not alone. God hears us."
The show has garnered overwhelming support from multiple national prayer movements, including U.S. Prayer Center; Promise Keepers; One Million Praying, Prayer Force One, Generals of Intercession; Florida Prayer Network; Congressional Prayer Caucus; Pray California; National Prayer Committee; Hollywood Prayer Network; Pray America; International House of Prayer and the National Day of Prayer.
"Answered Prayers .... is a powerful and gripping portrayal of a loving God who hears us when we pray," Rev. Dr. Ted Rose, chairman of the U.S. National Prayer Council said, according to a recent press release.
Dave Butts, the Chairman of the National Prayer Committee also expressed his support for the show, stating, "After decades of personally traveling the nation, encouraging people to pray .... Answered Prayers is like a gift of God."
John Bornschein, Vice Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force added, "Answered Prayers is a powerful testimony ... The stories of hope and inspiration are sure to stir up your personal prayer life with new passion."
