Evangelist Franklin Graham has slammed those in Congress who did not support the defunding of Planned Parenthood, reminding the politicians that they will one day stand before God and be held accountable for the blood of innocent children.
In a Facebook post shared on Wednesday afternoon, Graham, who is the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse, first directed his comments to Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev), who accused Republicans of "not being fair to American women" and of losing its "moral compass" shortly before an attempt to defund the abortion organization fell seven votes short of advancing.
"It's our responsibility in the Senate to assure that American women have access to care. It's our obligation to protect our wives, our sisters, our daughters, our granddaughters -- protect them from the absurd policies of a Republican Party that's lost its moral compass," Reid charged.
"You've got it backwards Senator Reid. You lost your moral compass years ago!" Graham responded. "You openly support abortion-the murder of babies in their mother's wombs-and now by backing Planned Parenthood you obviously support the dismemberment and sale of baby body parts."
As previously reported by the Gospel Herald, U.S. Senate on Monday rejected a bill to defund Planned Parenthood and transfer its $500 million it receives from the federal government to other women's health sources. The Republican-sponsored measure required 60 votes in order to move toward passage.
The vote came after outrage from Republican politicians over footage released by pro-life group Center for Medical Progress. In a series of five undercover videos, Planned Parenthood officials are shown speaking about selling aborted baby body parts and confirming that the group profited from the sale of aborted "specimens." The officials are also shown talking about abortion procedures in detail in a matter-of-fact manner.
In continuing his comments, Graham reminds those in Congress who maintained support for the leading abortion organization that one day they will stand before a Holy God and be required to answer for the blood of aborted children.
"Shame on you and each one in Congress who did not support defunding Planned Parenthood," Graham writes. "One day you will stand before God, and the blood of these innocent children will cry out for justice."
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Facebook post had received more than 24, 027 likes, over 8, 468 shares and 2,519 comments.
"Thank you so much, Franklin Graham, for being such a bold, righteous, and truthful man of God. I admire you so much for taking a stand and voicing your opinion on such controversial issues," wrote Diane Haines.
Added Jan Bachelder, "I know that many people believe that Planned Parenthood does a lot of good, but whatever good they may have done is cancelled out by this most outrageous crime against humanity. Devaluing unborn babies simply because they have not yet had an opportunity to live outside the womb, and "be productive" as some are prone to think, is unconscionable. And funding such efforts with federal funds, paid by taxpayers, cannot be justified."
Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner has said that multiple congressional committees are launching investigations into the Planned Parenthood sting videos and said he is awaiting more facts before deciding any next steps.
