Chronicles of Narnia: Silver Chair producer, Douglas Gresham, vowed to make a film that follows closer to the original vision by series' author C.S. Lewis.
"The problem I suppose is that I'm too much of a Narnia Purist. I see any changes as being almost being sacrilegious. So of course I have to argue with everybody else on the team and we usually come to a fine compromise somewhere along the way," Gresham admitted in a video interview with Wordsmith Media. Gresham, who happens to be one of Lewis' stepson, mentioned that "Silver Chair" marks a significant departure from the direction of the previous Narnia films.
"We are sort of doing it as an independent production using a production partnership with another company," he explained. "We have got some wonderful people doing it. We are going to try to do this [film] ourselves and do it the way we all believe it should be done."
The 69-year-old film producer also criticized the state of the film industry as a whole.
"One of the problems with the film industry is that in actual fact nobody really knows how to make a successful movie," Gresham elaborated. "People know how to make good movies, but funnily enough good movies often aren't successful. Sometimes rubbish movies take the world by storm."
However, Gresham was quick to add that he was "nowhere near that kind of league" and that he would try to "not make any flops" with the next Narnia film.
'Silver Chair' Finished Script Announcement Turns Out to be Hoax
Last month, an impostor claiming to be "Silver Chair" screenwriter David Magee announced the script was completed over on Twitter. This claim turned out to be a hoax, but fooled a number of well-respected publications in the process. At this time, the real Magee is developing the screenplay for "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair."
Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media produced the first two Narnia films, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "Prince Caspian." Due to unresolved budgetary disputes for "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," Disney was replaced by Dune Entertainment. "The Silver Chair" is the first installment to not involve Walden Media. Instead, the latest installment in the Narnia film series will be produced by The Mark Gordon Company.
