I have been reporting on the iPod Touch, sixth generation, for many articles. I had thought that since we have not seen a new generation of the once popular mobile device for years, that perhaps it had gone the way of the iPod Classic. However, what I have seen today and researched demonstrated that the iPod Touch Sixth Generation is happening, and here is the release date and review.
A posting in Gizmag has a review of the iPod Touch 6th Generation, comparing it to the iPod Touch 5th Generation. I couldn't believe it. How did I miss the launch of one of Apple's biggest products? Seriously, I was about ready to call an inaccuracy on this article, and I called up Apple to make sure that the iPod Touch 6th Generation had not been announced yet.
The person on the other end at Apple told me that the iPod Touch 6th Generation had been announced a week ago. Again, I wondered how I missed that, so I called up my local Apple Store, and sure enough, the iPod Sixth Generation was announced.
This iPod Sixth Generation won't be out for another few weeks, and I'm sorry that I don't have anything more specific than that. If you do a search on the iPod Touch Sixth Generation, you will find very little about it. Clearly, Apple did not think this product worthy of a big announcement in the same vein as their newest iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.
According to the aforementioned Gizmag article, here are some of the specs of the Sixth Generation of iPod Touch. I'll start by saying that it has the same dimensions as the 5th Generation of iPod Touch, and the weight is also the same. In fact, it is so much the same, the biggest difference is on the inside as the 6th Generation has an A8 64-bit dual core 1.1 GHz compared to the 5th Generation's A5, 32-bit dual core 800MHz. Also, the sixth generation has 1 GB of RAM compared to the fifth generation's 512 MB. The battery of the sixth generation is only slightly higher. The rear-facing camera has also been upgraded to a 8 Megapixels (as opposed to the 5th Gen's 5 Megapixel shooter), with the front-facing camera at 1.2 Megapixels.
I have confirmation from Apple that the iPod Touch that appears on the official Apple store is the 6th Generation model, and it is available in space gray, blue, gold, pink, and silver in models of 16 GB ($199), 32 GB ($249), 64 GB ($299), and 128 GB ($399). The Apple store says that these are in stock, so I imagine that you will be able to hold the latest iPod Touch in your hand quite soon.
