Transformers 5 will definitely be coming to theaters sometime in the future. Though the release date was confirmed by Paramount Pictures last year, there is the possibility for change of schedule. Also, rumors continue to suggest that fans will see stars from previous Transformers installments.
Release Date Pushed to 2017?
Earlier this year, Inquistr reported on a rumor suggesting that Transformers 5 will premiere on June 24, 2016. Oddly though, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner said that Transformers 5 release date will probably be in 2017. This information comes from Transformers World, which reported on Hasbro's 2015 Q1 Earnings Conference call in April.
Admittedly, this information makes sense considering Paramount already confirmed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will hit theaters on June 3, 2016. Having Transformers 5 premiere just weeks after TMNT 2 may cause unnecessary competition at the box office. Even so, Paramount has not formally announced schedule changes for Transformers 5.
So far, movie info sites such as IMDB have tentatively set the Transformers 5 release date for 2017. Others including Box Office Mojo have declined to offer premiere date information for the upcoming film.
How Certain is Shia LaBeouf Returning?
Rumors insisting that former Transformers star Shia LaBeouf will return continue to circulate on the web. Still, there are signs that this may not be the case.
In late June, LaBeouf trashed the Transformers series in an expletive-laden, freestyle rap. The actor was surrounded by a crowd of apparently young onlookers. A video of LaBeouf's unscripted performance was later posted on YouTube. Viewers are advised that the clip contains explicit language. When this video was shot remains unknown.
"'Transformers' is the dummy rap and I'm so past that," LaBeouf rapped, eliciting cheers of those around him.
Even if Paramount was contemplating bringing back the 29-year-old actor, recent developments may change the studio's mind. In short, the possibility of LaBeouf's return really depends on Paramount's tolerance for his off-screen antics.
What About Megan Fox and Mark Wahlberg?
Actress Megan Fox was absent from the series beginning in Transformers 3, following a much publicized fallout with Michael Bay. Since then, the actress and director have made amends - even working together on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. This has raised speculation that Fox will indeed return to the Transformers franchise. So far, the actress has yet to confirm whether she will be making that comeback.
Another rumor hints at the possibility that Mark Wahlberg will reprise his role from the more recent Transformers: Age of Extinction installment. CinemaBlend reported that Wahlberg's experience with director Michael Bay was generally positive, hence raising the possibility that they will collaborate on another Transformers film. Neither Paramount nor Wahlberg has confirmed whether this information is fact. For now, the possibility of Wahlberg returning remains open to debate.
