With The Flash Season 2 release date set for October 6 on CW Network, cast and plot spoilers continue to surface on the web. Happily, most of the information has been confirmed by official sources during the recently concluded San Diego Comic Con. In the sections below, we will look at latest buzz. Shantel VanSanten Cast as Police Officer Patty Spivot
It was just announced yesterday that Shantel Yvonne VanSanten has been cast as police officer Patty Spivot, who may be one new love interest for Barry Allen.
"Patty is obsessed with metahumans and partners with Det. Joe West this season but has no idea that her new crush is The Flash," CW wrote.
VanSanten is an American model and actress. As a model, she has been featured in the magazines Teen Vogue and Seventeen. On television, she played the role of Quinn James in the hit CW teen drama series One Tree Hill.
"I can't sleep I'm too excited!! One of my real life dreams came true... IM GOING TO BE A COMIC BOOK CHARACTER! Thanks @cwtheflash & @decomics for the opportunity! I'm so happy to be part of the family!!," VanSanten wrote on her Instagram account.
Shantel will start appearing in the second episode of Season 2.
Zoom is Main Villain
In Season 2, the main villain is being replaced by the yellow-clad supervillain Zoom. Though he shares a similar costume as the Flash, the Zoom has much different powers. The villain has the power to alter the speed at which he moves through time. This essentially makes Zoom faster than his sworn enemy, the Flash.
"We've got a couple villains we don't want to share, yet. We're really excited about Zoom, how that presents, the challenges he brings to our characters. He's going to be terrifying and scary, and fast," showrunner Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement.
Zoom is debut in to the Flash comic book universe in 2001. Before his transformation, the character was known as CCPD police officer Hunter Zolomon. After being paralyzed from waist down, Zolomon tries to convince future Flash Wally West to travel in time to change past events. West refuses for fears of altering the space-time continuum. Incensed, Zolomon decides to use the Cosmic Treadmill to go back in time. The machine explodes, granting special powers to the soon-to-be villain.
'Golden Age' Flash Coming to Season 2
At Comic Con, a special panel announced that the original Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick, will be played by Teddy Sears. The actor is better known for his role in Masters of Sex.
"Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas," Kreisberg explained. "It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn't imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy."
The official statement from CW states that Jay is traveling into the future to warn the modern Flash, Barry Allen, about an "impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop." Just who is this menace? More will be revealed when The Flash resumes this fall.
