Scores of LG G3, LG G2, and LG G4 users are stuck some form of older Android Lollipop firmware. Currently, the LG G4 comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop right out of the box. In contrast, the LG G3 and G2 are still running on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS. LG has yet to announce when users at Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile will be receiving the next Android update.

In the sections, below we will look at the update situation for the LG G3, LG G2, and LG G4.

Will the LG G4 Receive Android 5.1.1 Lollipop?

In June, GSMarena posted two screenshots from 02 UK and LG Hellas' Facebook page. Based on information from those screenshots, the publication claimed that the G3 will not be getting Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

However, GottaBeMobile believes that the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is still coming to the U.S. version of the LG G4. The publication pointed out that the LG G Flex 2 is getting Android 5.1.1 Lollipop in the United States.

If Android 5.1.1 is indeed coming to the LG G4, this may be good news for some users. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop apparently fixes memory drain issues that were reported by some observers.

Even so, users will need to wait for their respective carriers to roll out the update. Companies including Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile often put their devices through strict testing that may take anywhere between 4-6 months.

Update Situation with LG G3, G2

When LG released the G4 in June, observers noted that the device was running on Android 5.1 Lollipop. This added fire to rumors suggesting LG would roll out Android 5.1 on older devices such as the G3 and G2. So far, speculations have come to naught.

Earlier, GottaBeMobile reported that the LG G2 will be getting Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. So, it looks like LG is skipping past Android 5.1 Lollipop for the G2. This development mirrors the situation of the G3.

Previously, LG's Greek branch told users that the LG G3 will not be getting Android 5.1 Lollipop. Greek publication TechValue.gr reposted the original Facebook posting where LG Hellas made the announcement.

So far, there are no clues regarding what will be in store for the LG G3. Android update speculations for the G3 range between the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop or the upcoming Android M.

Is LG Waiting for Android M?

Various unconfirmed internet rumors suggest that LG may be holding back the G3 and G2 for Android M, which is said to be coming out later this year. Naturally, all manners of gossip will need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Even so, Google has a past habit of releasing one all-new Android firmware each year. The now ancient Android 4.4 KitKat was launched in September 2013, while Android 5.0 Lollipop was released in November 2014.
