Soul surfer and shark survivor Bethany Hamilton is an excited mother as any first-time moms could be. However, taking care of her new born son Tobias, who was born on June 1st is keeping her pre-occupied and is taking her away from one of the things she loves most, surfing.
On June 18, she posted on her Instagram account @bethanyhamilton that she longs to get back on the beach and surf. Bethany wrote, "I am loving being a mom! Tobias is adorable, but I can't wait to get my feet on some wax & #mybikini on! @lieberfilms."
Luckily for the 25-year-old Hamilton, her husband Adam Dirks has given her something to shift her attention somewhere else as she takes a brief hiatus from surfing while focusing on being a homemaker - The Lord of the Rings trilogy, said Christian Today.
Bethany Hamilton posted a photo of The Hobbit book on Instagram with a steaming hot drink. She wrote, "Morning tea and read. My husband is a Lord of the Rings nerd, we recently watched the trilogy (I had not seen it) it was so good! Now I'm on to reading The Hobbit!"
The Lord of the Rings trilogy, including The Two Towers and The Return of the King, as well as The Hobbit were authored by J.R.R. Tolkien and have been made into movies and cartoons. The most recent were the film adaptations The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies were directed by Peter Jackson. All the five movies of the series were megahits in the block buster.
On June 29, Bethany also shared a picture of Tobias wearing a tiny orange beach hat and carried by his father, Dirk on the beach.
Bethany Hamilton captioned the photo with, "Family beach day! Tobias had his first time in the ocean with his papa!!! He didn't love it."
Tobias was born on June 1st weighing 7.9 lbs and 21" long. Bethany said she named her son after his son's great grandfather Tobias, which means the goodness of God. She shared the arrival of Tobias on her Facebook page and posted a picture with the caption, "Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world. Born June 1st, 7.9 lbs. and 21" long. He is named after his great grandpa Tobias meaning 'The goodness of God.' Adam and I so in love with our lil guy and are stoked to share life with him!"
The Christian athlete said she wanted to get in as much surfing as possible while she was pregnant before the new member of the family arrives. She said, "I've kept very active, but have also taken more time to rest. It's crazy, but I feel like I've done some of my best surfing prego! But I'm fully enjoying the ocean."
Commenting on her surfing activities while pregnant, Hamilton told People in March, "It's such a weird feeling to be surfing in the ocean while my baby is moving around inside me. It's a cool feeling, but I noticed my balance is a little off and I fall more, so I'm having to focus." Hamilton was six months pregnant at the time of the interview.
"I'll probably keep riding until about eight months," she added then.
Hamilton, who lost her left arm in October 31, 2003 when she was only 13 from a 14-foot tiger shark along Tunnels Beach, Kauai, said that being one-armed does not really bother her but admitted having a baby could be a challenge.
