With Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 1, while the PC release date is set September 15. The final product is said to offer a vast improvement over the previous E3 2014 demo version.
One Hour Gameplay Details Released
Up to this point, not many details have been released about the upcoming Metal Gear Solid title apart from what Kojima wanted audiences to see. This changed recently with a series of videos released by a gamer fortunate enough to trial the game at E3 2015.
On YouTube, user Yongyea showcased one hour of footage from the first mission after the infamous hospital scene. Gamers will notice that gameplay mechanics have been improved since Ground Zeroes. For instance, Snake responds a lot quicker when turning. Also, players can move the character in and out of cover a lot easier.
Enemy AI has seen a noticeable upgrade, with guards being more likely to investigate suspicious activity. In short, stealth will be a lot more challenging than anticipated. If Snake decides to "Fulton" an unconscious guard while the area is insecure, surrounding enemies will notice.
Players can also knock enemies out with the bionic arm punch while on the run. This is done using the R2 button. However, the bionic arm punch is considered a secondary weapon. So, players will carry one less firearm if the bionic arm is equipped.
Also, the iconic MGS cardboard box is making a return. This time, players can change the box's position so that they can stay hidden while standing. Gamers can also lure unsuspecting guards using pinup sketches drawn on the box. When the hapless enemy is close enough, players can shoot a knockout dart into the opponent's face.
Real Life Merchandising Evident
During the introduction sequence for the first desert mission, Ocelot is seen wearing sunglasses not previously shown in past demo videos. The credits listed Ocelot's glasses as J.F. Eyewear 'Ocelot Gear'. Yongyea believes that Kojima will sell these pair of shades as merchandise - alongside Kaz's aviator sunglasses.
