While the NBA 2K16 release date is scheduled for September 29, pre-order customers will get their copy four days earlier. Even though the game is being phased out, NBA 2K15 is still receiving locker codes from 2K Sports. NBA 2K16 will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
NBA 2K16 Pre-Order Perks
Those who bought the game early will also be privy to in-game bonuses such as $10,000 in virtual currency. Pre-order customers will also get the MyTEAM VIP Package.
According to Stack.com, the cover features three basketball stars including Golden State's MVP Stephen Curry, Houston Guard James Holden, and Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant. The publication also pointed out this will be Curry's first appearance in the popular videogame franchise.
Meanwhile, 2K Games has confirmed that Spike Lee is working on a story for the game's career mode. The Academy-Award winning director and screenwriter is not the first celebrity to be participating in developing an NBA 2K game. In previous years, 2K Games recruited Jay-Z and Pharrell.
New NBA 2K15 Locker Codes Available
2K Sport continually rewards loyal fans with locker codes that unlock content and perks. Last week, NBA 2K15 players received codes for the following:
Paul George: PVUCU-733LE-MMANE-WCB8G-TTSPT
1000 VC Points: #2KTVPOSTSEASON
To access the free content, players must input these codes in the game's Locker Codes section.
NBA 2K15 Online Servers Will Remain Open
NBA 2K15 online servers may stay alive longer, contrary to earlier fears from players.
"We are extending the support of all NBA 2K servers from 18 to 27 months following each release, giving our players more time to experience and enjoy the highest rated NBA simulation video game franchise," a 2K representative wrote to Polygon.
"The opinions of our community continue to have a positive impact on our business decisions as we strive to create the best possible experience for all of our fans."
Theoretically, this means NBA 2K15's online server may stay active anywhere between Fall 2016 and Summer 2017.
The NBA 2K series has long been lauded for its realistic simulation of an actual National Basketball Association (NBA) career.
This is accessible through the game's career mode, which can be played both in single-player and in multiplayer. After creating a custom avatar, player will be responsible for guiding that character through his career in the NBA. Along the way, players can customize their avatars with accessories including shoes and clothes.
Starting with NBA 2K14, the career mode had cutscenes that added a role-playing element to the gaming experience. This feature was also included with NBA 2K15.
