HTC is almost always one of the first mobile phone manufacturers to announce Android rollout plans. Once again, it has lived up to this reputation as it confirmed the release of Android M for HTC One M9 and HTC One M9+.
In a tweet, HTC announced, "We're excited to announce that the HTC One M9 and M9+ will be updated to Android M, with more devices to be announced soon!
The smartphone giant also confirmed the release of Android 5.1 Lollipop update for their 2014 flagship, One M8. While HTC fans are excited, they have not announced any detailed update schedule for Android M.
HTC promised updates within 90 days of receipt of the software. However, users have their fingers crossed because the release of Android Lollipop missed its 90-day target due to development delays. When it was finally released, many reported experiencing problems right after the update was installed. Issues included excessive battery drain, freezing apps and forced reboots.
HTC has explained how it prepares an update service for its devices, which includes a 5-stage process that involves evaluation, development, integration, text and push to customer. The company regularly updates their software update pade to let customers know when a certain update is rolling out.
Android M offers many features and updates to the Android operating sytem, including Android Pay, quick charging features, improved battery life and native fingerprint sensors. To recall, Google's annual I/O annual developers revealed that the next Android version will have improved app permissions, new Chrome feature and a battery saver called Doze.
