Reba McEntire has sold over 56 million albums, made 35 chart-topping singles, starred in her own television show, and even launched her own clothing line.
Country music icon Reba McEntire has credited her immense success to her Christian faith, saying she seeks God's guidance for her every move.
During her impressive career, the 60 year old singer has sold over 56 million albums, made 35 chart-topping singles, starred in her own television show, and even launched her own clothing line. Her latest album, Love Somebody, has earned rave reviews and soaring first-week sales.
"[Faith] guides me on everything I do," McEntire explained to Fox News regarding her success."I ask for guidance, I ask the Lord to give me wisdom when I speak, when I think and I always try to be positive and say nice things and it gives me strength throughout every minute and every day."
McEntire, who will celebrate 26 years of marriage to her manager husband, Narvel Blackstock in June, also revealed that Love Somebody primarily focuses on her faith and the need to love others. In fact, she penned the hit single "Pray for Peace" after receiving a message from God.
"It's a song that was started 2-3 years ago when I was out walking," she said. "My front yard is my church and that's where I go out and I talk to God...so 'Pray for Peace' came to my mind and I started praying for peace."
The "Going Out Like That" singer said, "A month or two later I'm like, 'Lord, what have you got in mind for me? What's my next project?' And He said, 'I want you to pray for peace.'"
After penning the song, McEntire recalled asking God what she should do with it, and He told her to give it away. After putting it on YouTube several months ago, the singer also decided to include it on her latest album because "fans need to hear it because it is a gift from God."
"I feel this song is a gift from God," she explained on her Facebook page. "I have never worked a song as long as this one. It went from a bass drum, fiddle and singers to guest artists singing with me, adding more instruments, even a choir and bagpipe! It's an act of perseverance, prayer, hope, fellowship, and mostly love."
McEntire's faith doesn't only drive her music; she's also joined Outnumber Hunger's campaign to help secure meals for those struggling with hunger in America.
The Oklahoma native said she was "shocked" to learn how many people in the United States lack sufficient food and is working to "give back" to those in need.
"I really didn't see hunger [growing up], we had an 8,000 acre cattle ranch...so this was shocking to me...about how many people were going hungry in the land of the plenty."
This summer, McEntire will head to Las Vegas with country duo Brooks & Dunn for a series of shows at Caesars Palace
