Taylor Swift fans across the world have united on social media to pray for the 25 year old singer's mother, Andrea Finlay, following the news of her cancer diagnosis.
On Thursday, the Grammy-award winning pop icon took to Tumblr to share the sobering news with her millions of fans: "I'm writing to you with an update I wish I wasn't giving you, but it's important and I'm used to sharing important events in my life with you...This is something my family and I thought you should know about."
She continued, "For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gift to me be here going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to east some worries of mine. She agreed, and went in to get checked."
While her mom felt perfectly fine, Swift revealed that "the results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. "
The "Blank Space" singer explained that her family will keep the details of the diagnosis private, but said her mother wanted Swift's fan to know.
"She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle," she wrote. "She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour."
Instantly, thousands of well-wishers responded to Swift's post, sharing it on Facebook and Twitter and vocalizing their love and support for the singer and her family using the hashtag #PrayForMamaSwift.
"For all Taylor has done for cancer victims, it's time for all of us to do the same for her," wrote one Twitter user.
"Cancer is close to my heart I hate knowing that Taylor Andrea & the rest of the family are going through the same thing," a user named Stana Pictures wrote.
"I'm saddened to hear that Taylor's mom has been diagnosed with cancer. You and your family will be in our thoughts & prayers," added Sarah Cichon.
"I'm so sorry to hear this Taylor...sending my prayer to you and your family! Stay strong I know she could beat the cancer," wrote another Taylor Swift fan.
Swift, whose 5th studio album, "1989" was the best-selling album of 2014, often discusses her close relationship with her mother, who frequently accompanied her on tour.
The 25 year old pop icon has previously explained that the song "The Best Day" from her second studio album, "Fearless" is about her mother and the special bond she shares with her.
Included in the song are the heartwarming lines, "I don't know why all the trees change in the fall/I know why you're not scared of anything at all/Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away/But I know I had the best day/ With you today."
In concluding the message revealing her mother's cancer, Swift stated, "[My mom has] an important battle to fight."
The "Shake It Off" singer added, "I hope and pray that you never get any news like this."
