Android 5.0 Lollipop is still missing in action for many Android-based devices, but HTC's One M7 and M8 customers on AT&T will be happy to hear that the operating system update is starting its roll-out today. And Sony fans may be pleased to hear that the original Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra will also be getting Lollipop, as confirmed by a post on the official Sony blog.
Although HTC is missing its 90-day launch window that it projected for Android Lollipop to hit its product line, HTC users are happy that the upgraded OS is finally arriving. Lollipop brings with it improved battery usage, more efficient app processing, upgraded notifications, and the all-new Material Design language that allows for a more aesthetically pleasing layout.
When making the upgrade, make sure that your battery is fully charged or you're plugged in, and make sure that you're on a wi-fi network for best results. Now let's take a look at which updates are expected to come soon.
HTC One M7
The phone that brought HTC back into the game is said to be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update starting today on the AT&T network, according to HTC's VP of Product Management, Mo Versi.
The tweet said that technical approval has been received and the over-the-air (OTA) update will begin today and is expected to last throughout the rest of this week.
AT&T has confirmed the roll-out, adding that a small Android 4.4.2 KitKat update may come first to pave the way for Lollipop, so keep an eye out for that notification as well.
HTC One M8
The newer One M8 is not far behind, however, as the scheduled roll-out for Lollipop is April 6 on AT&T's network. While there's no word yet for either the One M7 or One M8 to receive a further update to the current version of Lollipop (5.1), some rumors suggest that it could be coming before the end of the year. The next iteration of the One line, the One M9, i scheduled to release on April 10.
Sony Xperia line
A post on Sony's official blog confirmed that Lollipop will be coming to the Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra very soon, and the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet will both begin rolling out the operating syste update next week.
The Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact have already received the Lollipop update earlier this month in select European countries, but is now rolling out on a larger scale worldwide.
