After yesterday's devastating tornadoes ripped through Moore, Oklahoma, a high school teen shared an inspiring image that brought hope to the community in the aftermath.
Chase Rhodes took a photo of a fragmented telephone pole dangling amongst the wires that formed a perfect image of a cross. Rhodes shares the picture on his Twitter account with the simple caption: "Just found this after the tornado. God is with us."
The striking image was shared thousands of times on social media and Rhodes' story was told by most of the major news networks to describe the scene and his photo.
The image was taken on the corner of 119th and Western Ave in Moore, just south of Oklahoma City. The exact area was devastated by an E5 tornado not even two years ago that claimed the lives of 24 people. Luckily, Wednesday's tornado had much fewer casualties with only one reported and a handful of injuries.
"Authorities cannot say whether the fatality was caused by a confirmed tornado or high winds, but the storm is responsible," reported The Weather Channel. "Rescue efforts were hampered Wednesday night by nasty weather that followed the initial round of severe storms."
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin declared a state of emergency in 25 of the counties hit the hardest by the string of tornadoes and power outages are still widespread. The Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma has responded to several areas to provide immediate aid.
The string of tornadoes continued on through Oklahoma to Arkansas where tree damage and large hail were reported.
After the storms subsided in Moore, another shot was taken across town of an inspirational cloud formation that seemed to resemble God's folded hands. Josh McCartney shared the photo on the Facebook wall of K-LOVE Radio who was equally impressed.
"Wow! That is stunning, Josh," the station said in the comments. "Thanks for sharing and we're praying for all affected. God bless!"
These types of images after devastating events are often reminders from our Lord that he is still with us, even through tragedy. The iconic cross left in the wreckage of New York City's twin towers after 9/11 is another example, following a long line of reminders dating back to Noah and the rainbow after the flood.
It's certainly uplifting that these types of signs from God can touch so many hearts, and we wish the best for those affected by Wednesday's storms.
