The Way, a faith-based family drama from Parenthood and Friday Night Lights creator Jason Katims and writer-producer Jessica Goldberg, is coming to Hulu later this year, the online streaming service announced earlier this week.

According to the Hulu.com blog, the show, which will be produced by Katims' True Jack Productions, will center around a faith-based movement that causes all kinds of controversy. The show will follow a family caught in the thick of this controversy, and viewers will see how it affects their relationships, marriages and power dynamics.
The 10-episode first season will go into production this summer, and Deadline.com reveals that each hourlong episode will take an "in-depth look at what it means to choose between the life we live and the life we want."
"Jason Katims is responsible for the most groundbreaking shows about family seen through unique lenses," said Craig Erwich, senior vice president and head of content for Hulu, in a statement. "He and Jessica Goldberg have delivered a provocative take on a controversial, dangerous and thrilling world."
Goldberg, whose thoughtful, emotionally-charged writing brought millions of Parenthood fans to tears throughout its six seasons, has called The Way her "passion project."
"I love films where political meets the personal in people's lives--really intense portraits of human beings," she told Variety.
While it is unclear which faith will be featured in the upcoming series, Patheos blogger Kate O'Hare notes that "The Way" was a term used by very early Christians to describe their nascent movement.
Additionally, The Way International is also the name for a nontrinitarian, interdenominational ministry based in Ohio which describes itself as being dedicated to "Biblical research, teaching and fellowship," O'Hare writes.
Although The Way is not expected to be released until December, Parenthood fans are already expressing their excitement at the upcoming drama.
"With Parenthood off the air, I'm already predicting this new Jason Katims show on Hulu will be my weekly cry fest," wrote one Twitter user.
Added another, "So excited for The Way...I absolutely loved Parenthood and am confident I'll love anything from Jason Katims and Jessica Goldberg."
Casting is currently in motion on The Way, and Hulu is working to land some big names for the show such as actor James Franco, who recently signed on for the limited series 11/22/63, based on Stephen King's novel, according to CinemaBlend.com.
