Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of the late Whitney Houston and R&B singer Bobby Brown, remains in a medically-induced coma nearly two months after being found unresponsive in a bathtub.
Although Bobbi's family has remained relatively silent about her condition, a family source recently told the AFP that the 22 year old remains on life support at Emory University Hospital, and little about her condition has changed.
As previously reported by the Gospel Herald, Bobbi Kristina suffered "violent seizures" several weeks ago after being taken out of a medically-induced coma, forcing doctors to place her back into the coma.
"[She has shown] absolutely no signs of life lately," the family source told the AFP. "It is really on Bobby Brown's shoulders to let her go in peace," the insider continued, adding that Bobbi Kristina's grandmother, Cissy Houston, has come to terms with the idea of removing her life support.
On Bobbi Kristina's birthday two weeks ago, however, Bobbi Kristina's aunt, Pat Houston, revealed that the young girl is continuing to fight for her life despite the negative diagnosis.
"Today is Bobbi Kristina's 22nd birthday and we ask you to continue to keep her in your prayers as she is still fighting the battle of her life," Houston wrote at the time.
Dr. Sasan Yadegar, Neurosurgical Director with Dignity Health Northridge Hospital and Trauma Center, told the AFP that even though she remains hospitalized, Bobbi Kristina's family shouldn't give up just yet.
In his experience, he said, it may take patients three to six months to wake up after an anoxic brain injury (global lack of oxygen to the brain). Because Bobbi Kristina is so young, Yadegar said she has a "good chance" at making a recovery.
Bobbi Kristina has remained comatose since she was found face down and unresponsive in the bathtub of her Roswell, Georgia home in late January, in a manner eerily similar to the way her mother, Whitney Houston, was found nearly three years ago. According to medical experts, the 22 year old was deprived of oxygen while in the bathtub for anywhere from two to fifteen minutes. Doctors have since removed her breathing tube, but have kept her on a ventilator and feeding tube. While experts say Bobbi Kristina likely has significant brain damage, they say the seizures are a strong indication that she is not, in fact, brain dead.
Although the exact cause of her current condition remains unknown, a report which surfaced last month claimed Bobbi Kristina was under the influence of drugs and drinking heavily on the morning she was found unresponsive, and had been using cocaine, heroin, and Xanax in the months prior to the incident.
"How thin she had gotten is an indicator," the source told People. "This girl was trying hard, but she didn't have any support system. She was still dealing with a lot of grief over her mother."
However, police are currently treating her case as a criminal investigation due to "certain bruising" and other suspicious markings found on her body.
"Foul play is being investigated, including drug use and possibly cover-up to remove evidence from the crime scene," the family source told PEOPLE magazine.
Bobbi Kristina's boyfriend,Nick Gordon, has been named by investigators as a person of interest, as the two shared a tumultuous, and often violent, relationship. According to reports, Brown family has told Gordon he will not be allowed to visit Bobbi Kristina until he reveals exactly what happened the evening before she was found.
Last Wednesday, Gordon appeared on the "Dr. Phil" show, along with his mother, and expressed his sorrow over Bobbi Kristina's condition. He also admitted to substance abuse, while his mother claimed that the 25-year-old had tried to commit suicide.
