Sony is on the ball these days with the growing popularity of its Xperia line of smartphones, and the upcoming Xperia Z4 is enjoying a host of rumors and hype that point to another great Sony product.
Sony Xperia Z4
Despite rumors leading up to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this month, Sony decided not to showcase the Xperia Z4 there. But Sony has acknowledged the device's existence and we may see it around September of this year, according to rumors.
Additionally, a leaked image from Sony's Chinese division seems to show off what the Xperia Z4 will look like.
The image, released on the company's Weibo feed and then quickly removed, showed off a render of a mysterious new phone from several angles. As PhoneArena points out, "The render itself shows us a seemingly thin device with a metal frame encasing it. The top and bottom bezels are nearly non-existent, with the latter housing a circular, Meizu MX4-like home button (we suspect). As you can see for yourself, the renders are kind of crude, and remind more of a concept than something that can actually be engineered at this point in time."
And Ubergizmo had its own ideas about the leaked image. "However what caught our attention is that tiny button/sensor at the bottom of the phone. It's a bit small to be a home button and the surface area is also a bit small to be used for fingerprint scanning, so perhaps it could simply be a notification light. Apart from that it's hard to tell if this rendering could be the real deal or if it could be fake designed to throw us off or a concept rendering by a fan."
Now the question is whether or not the image was leaked accidentally, and actually is the Z4, or it was meant as a tease for something else. Either way, leaks from official outlets are always exciting.
Sony Xperia Z3 Android Updates
As for the current Xperia Z3 and its status with the Android operating system, Sony's official Twitter account sent a message that only the Xperia Z series would be getting the Android 5.1 Lollipop patch, but no date was given. Considering the fact that they also confirmed that 5.0 Lollipop would be coming to the Z3 next week, we imagine 5.1 isn't far behind.
Both Sony Mobile Indonesia and Sony Mobile France confirmed the arrival of 5.0 Lollipop on the Z3 next week, but no definite date was given. As with any new mobile operating system roll-out, not all devices will receive the update at the same time, so you may have to check manually if you don't receive the automatic notification within the next week.
The Xperia 4 is expected to release with Lollipop standard, but there's been no word about which decimal version will be released exactly.
