Apple's latest iOS 8.1.3 software update may have fixed some previous issues, but the late January patch brought out a few of its own bugs that have kept fans frustrated and jailbreakers stuck.
Apple's iOS first launched in September of last year but was plagued by a rocky launch. Subsequent updates seemed to do more harm than good with each new promised patch hopeful to fix the problems. But the latest 8.1.3 software update brings with it decreased performance, Bluetooth connectivity issues, Wi-Fi problems, and decreased battery life.
In addition, some iPhone users are reporting that the previously-patched landscape bug is back again, while others on the iPhone 6 Plus are saying that the update actually fixed the bug from 8.1.2. The problem happened when the phone would get stuck in landscape mode indefinitely until the device was restarted. As you can imagine, this was a big inconvenience for many users.
GottaBeMobile describes one particular bug that has been lingering with the new update. "The only real problem I am running into relates to the lock screen camera," the tech news site states. "Sometimes when I try to swipe up to open the camera, the swipe goes about halfway and then slams back down. It's not clear why this happens, so I started using Control Center to use the camera from the lock screen. The problem is sporadic and not a deal-breaker."
In addition, those who have Jailbroken their phones will find that 8.1.3 is not available to jailbreak just yet, while Apple has already stated that it won't continue to sign the 8.1.2 patch. So if you have a jailbroken phone, you may be stuck with 8.1.2 for a bit -- at least until 8.2 comes out.
"Those who jailbreak, however, will be heartbroken to know that the latest version does not support Evasi0n, Pangu, TaiG, or any other software used for jailbreaking their device," iDigital Times said in a recent article regarding the jailbreak situation on the iPhone 6.
Although Apple is stopping the possibility of downgrading the jailbroken phones, some believe that the upcoming Apple event could bring further support to jailbreaking and downgrading the iPhone's OS. We do know that the event is supposed to focus on the Apple Watch, and that in itself may be even more difficult to jailbreak, according to experts.
But on the plus side, iOS 8.1.3 did fix a few lingering issues on the iPhone 6 Plus. There was an issue where some apps wouldn't show in Spotlight while others couldn't log into FacetIme or iMessage. Both of these issues are reported to be fixed.
