Bobbi Kristina Brown, the 21-year-old daughter of singers Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston, is still fighting for her life nearly two weeks after being found unresponsive in a bathtub, according to Brown's family.
"On this -- the third anniversary of Whitney's passing, our family continues to stand together praying that Bobbi Kristina continues to fight for her life," family member Pat Houston said in a statement released Wednesday. "We thank you again for your continued prayers of love and restoration and we thank you for respecting the family's privacy at this time."
Bobbi Kristina was found lying face-down in a bathtub on January 31st at her home in Roswell, Georgia and was immediately taken to North Fulton Hospital. She has since been moved to Emory Hospital and remains in a coma.
The young woman's mother, singer Whitney Houston, was found dead in the same way, face-down in a Beverly Hills Hilton bathtub, exactly three years ago from Wednesday. The cause of death for Whitney was ruled as drowning due to a heart attack brought on by cocaine use, but the reason for Bobbi Kristina's coma is still being investigated.
Brown was said to have been deprived of oxygen in the bathtub for anywhere from two to fifteen minutes, according to medical examiners, and there's been no report of drugs in her system, although police confirm that drugs were found at the scene.
But even more important to the investigation is the fact that police say Brown had "certain injuries" on her at the time she was found to lead them to believe that her boyfriend, Nick Gordon, may have something to do with her current condition.
Conflicting reports exist on who found Bobbi Kristina in the bathtub, but both Gordon and friend Max Lomas were in the townhouse at the time. Attorney Ashleigh Merchant says that Max is the one who found her and called for Nick, who then called 911 and "cleaned up the home and removed blood stains" before authorities arrived.
Brown and Gordon had a notoriously rocky relationship which some claim got violent at times. Bobbi Kristina's father, Bobby Brown, was reportedly not talking to his daughter because he didn't like Gordon and did not approve of their relationship.
But Gordon denies reports that he is suing to see Bobbi Kristina, while the Brown family bars him from entering her hospital room. Gordon's lawyer, Randy Kessler, explained, "Mr. Gordon's only concern is the recovery of Bobbi Kristina. He remains in constant prayer for his companion and he hopes to be reunited with her soon."
While no charges have been filed against Gordon during the investigation, it's also important to note that Brown was also involved in a serious accident only three days before she was found unresponsive. The accident happened when Brown lost control of her Jeep and crossed over into oncoming traffic in Roswell. She collided with a Ford Taurus being driven by Russell Eckerman who is currently in serious condition, but Brown suffered no known injuries in the crash. Lingering internal injuries from that crash have not been ruled out, but are not thought to be the primary cause of Brown's black-out.
Contrary to some reports, Brown's family does not wish to take the young woman off life support. "We wouldn't do that to Krissy," cousin Jerod Brown said to Atlanta's NBC affiliate in an interview. "I wouldn't want someone to do that to me if I was in that situation." Jerod did confirm that the family is looking to take her off of her breathing support but only to see if she can breathe on her own.
And the Brown family continues to turn to God for support through these trying times. "Right now, we have the chance to save Bobbi Kristina and the best way we can save her right now if through prayer," Jerod said.
