Sony's PlayStation Plus Network members will be receiving an impressive list of free games for the month of February, beginning on Tuesday the 3rd.
First up, we have Transistor for the PlayStation 4. If you liked Bastion, you'll love this successor in which your character wields a mysteriously powerful weapon in a futuristic sci-fi action RPG setting. The folks at Supergiant Games invite you to unlock the story of the powerful weapon in this action-packed game.
Next up for PlayStation 4 users is Apotheon, which is one of the games we originally predicted to be free in January, but, thanks to a slight launch delay, will be arriving in February instead. The PS4-exclusive game features a unique "vase-painting" art style in a 2D side-scrolling adventure.
"Zeus and the gods of Mount Olympus have turned their backs on humanity. Now, a chosen warrior rises up to climb the sacred summit and strip the very gods of their power," the game's description reads.
For you PlayStation 3 users out there, the open-world brawler Yakuza 4 will be free all month for the older console. The game is based on the dangers of the Japanese underworld where you can explore underground Tokyo and participate in a healthy dose of side missions.
Thief is another game offered free for the PlayStation 3 this month, featuring a myriad of stealth skills that will help you grab the very best loot before anyone even knew you were there. This Square Enix game marks the return of Garrett the Master Thief as he fights to save citizens of The City before the inevitable revolution happens.
But if you're more into the portable experience of the PlayStation Vita, Sony is offering Kick & Fennick for free for the first time on the network. This indie game is a culmination of work from developers Jaywalkers Interactive and Abstraction Games who worked together to bring the game to the PS Vita late last year.
According to the game's description, you play as a boy named Kick who befriends a small flying robot named Fennick. "When Fennick saves Kick from a menacing guard robot, they find out Fennick's battery is broken. Together, they embark on an adventure to the Core Tower to find Fennick a new energy core."
And last, but certainly not least, is Rogue Legacy, a game being offered for free on the PS Vita, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4! This old-school platformer has you exploring a dynamically changing castle to fight bad guys galore. But the most interesting part of the game (and the "Legacy" part of the title) is the fun mechanic that allows your to pass on your wealth and power to your children every time you die in the game.
This might sound like a gimmick on the surface, but this geneological progression actually allows your offspring to refine your good name and become stronger and stronger each generation.
The PlayStation Plus network not only gets you a handful of free games every month, but it also gets you deep discounts in the PlayStation Store, online game saves in the cloud, online multiplayer functionality, and automatic game updates.
You can purchase the PlayStation Plus membership now for $17.99 for three months or a full year for only $49.99.
