LG rushed to let the world know last November that the LG G3 smartphone would be among the early adopters of the Android 5.0 Lollipop mobile operating system, but we're just now starting to see that proclamation coming true.
Late last week, LG's Twitter sent out a simple, yet effective message for G3 fans: "Introducing Lollipop: a sweet treat for you #LGG3," the message read. The note was accompanied by a graphic that included the statement, "Life with your LG G3 is about to get sweeter."
Of course, this doesn't give an official date to expect Lollipop to start hitting the G3, but an interesting exchange of messages happened after this tweet that shows that some carriers are listening.
T-Mobile's Twitter account responded to users asking about a timeline for the G3 on their network to expect the Android Lollipop update, and they responded, "We strive to get our software updates out as quick as we can! T-Mobile works with the device manufacturer to ensure our updates are customized for your device." The company then gave out a link to its support page for a better idea of when specific devices can expect to see the download, but you must log in to see the page.
U.S. Cellular was next to respond, simply throwing out a link to an info page that shows when and how to download the latest OS software, but right now the page only shows Android 4.4.4 KitKat as the latest on its network.
And finally, Sprint responded by saying, "Updates are sent out in waves to avoid the system overloading. Thank you for your patience." A follow-up message came through with no new information, but another quick note to let customers know that they're listening. "Unfortunately, at this time we're not aware of the official release date. U'll receive it as soon as it becomes available," the company's Twitter said.
HTC One M7 and M8
As for HTC, the Taiwanese company has already tried to update the One M8 to Android 4.4.4 KitKat on the AT&T network in anticipation of Android 5.0, but the update was premature and quickly pulled. This week, however, AT&T is trying again as many users are reporting the 4.4.4 KitKat download is coming through successfully.
"AT&T released a software update for the HTC One (M8) (0P6B120) on January 26, 2015," the AT&T update page reads. "The update is available to customers to download via Firmware Over The Air (FOTA). Wi-Fi is required."
Once the KitKat update is done, we expect it won't be too much longer for the 5.0 Lollipop update to drop.
The One M7, on the other hand, is expected to get the more recent 5.0.2 Lollipop update soon, and it is already said to be the last supported Android update for the 2013 phone. The Google Play edition of the One M7 has already received the update, but now we're just waiting on the carrier versions for AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile to get up-to-date.
