It does not look like Sony's newest flagship phone the Xperia Z4 is going to show up at CES 2015, at least not in public. The phone has been getting a lot of speculation on what will it be, and it apparently did show up at CES.
There was supposedly a "secret showing" of the Sony Xperia Z4 at CES 2015, and considering the reputation of the massive tradeshow held annually in Las Vegas, such a secret showing could have taken place in any casino/hotel suite, a rented ballroom, or even a private room built right into the Sony booth, right on the showfloor. In fact, Design and Trend have confirmed that there was some sort of top secret location. They even state that the Samsung Galaxy S6 was in the same room, guarded by Samsung and Sony employees.
So let's start with the release date. Sony seems to have this biannual release date going on with its phones, unlike Samsung, LG, or HTC. Considering that the Xperia Z3 made its debut in IFA 2014 tradeshow in Berlin, and the Xperia Z2 first appeared at Mobile World Congress earlier that year, it is a safe bet that the Xperia Z4 is going to show up at Mobile World Congress, held March 2-5, 2015. PC Advisor makes this prediction, as well as speculating that consumers should be able to get the phone by April 2015.
One of the wildest rumors is that James Bond is going to get involved in this phone, it is rumored that there will be some serious product placement of the Sony Xperia Z4 in the next James Bond movie, Spectre. There are even rumors going about saying that James Bond actor Daniel Craig and film director Sam Mendes could have some input in the design of the Xperia Z4.
As far as the price is concerned, the expectation is that the Sony Xperia Z4 will be around £599. This is due to some raising of the specs plus adjusting the price for inflation, as the price of the Sony Xperia Z3 upon its release cost about £549.
Now it is time to talk about the specs of the Sony Xperia Z4. According to the Latino Post, the Xperia Z4 should have a Quad-HD display (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution), Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor (octa-core 64-bit chipset), Adreno 430 GPU, 32 GB internal storage, 4 GB of RAM, LTE Cat.6 connectivity, Bluetooth 4.1, and what would have to be Lollipop out of the box. The screen could be as high as 5.5 inches.
We have previously reported about the Sony speaker technology X-Ploid, which should be very interesting. The battery will be 2800 mAh with 2 days of battery life, and the cameras will be a 20.7 Megapixel on the rear and 5 Megapixels on the front. It is also IP65/68 certified.
What hasn't seemed to change is any information on the Lollipop update for the Sony Xperia Z2 and Z3. This has been awaited for a long time, and should be available sometime in 2015.
