Samsung is expected to show off the new flagship Galaxy S6 during this week's International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, but the Korean tech company still remains quiet about a release date.
According to a report at SamMobile, Samsung's Galaxy S6 will most likely be shown off to a select group of partners, instead of publicly to consumers, so word of what's shown may not even be made public. Most likely, the S6 is being shown to app developers to establish solid support before the device launches.
Earlier in December, Korean publication Chosun Biz also said that a CES 2015 unveiling of the S6 was very possible, adding that a dual-edged curved display, similar to that of the Galaxy Note Edge, was also expected to be shown off on an accompanying variant.
The S6, codenamed "Project Zero," is said to feature a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display running at 1440 x 2560 resolution, a 1.3 GHz quad-core Cortex processor, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB of storage (expandable to 128 GB), and a whopping 20-megapixel rear camera. Android 5.0 Lollipop is said to come loaded standard with Samsung's TouchWiz UI modification. Available colors are said to include Charcoal Black, Copper Gold, Electric Blue, and Shimmery White.
Take note, though, that those specs are not only rumored, but if there are in fact two separate version of the Galaxy S6 (including an "Edge" variant), then those specs could vary from phone to phone.
In an anonymous tip from an alleged Samsung employee last week, we got word that there may even be three different versions of the Galaxy S6, which would go in line with Samsung's complete overhaul of the S line after poor sales of the Galaxy S5 last year.
While the reveal of the Galaxy S6 to select partners behind closed doors could mean solid progress toward a public announcement soon, many believe that we'll see that announcement some time in February or March to accommodate a possible April launch. This would be right in line with the previous two models. The S5 was announced on February 24 of last year with a release on April 11, and the S4 was shown off for the first time on March 14, 2013 with a release in April of that year. Samsung may want to start from scratch on the S line's feature set and design, but Samsung still sticks by tradition when it comes to announcements and launcg dates.
In addition to this news, SamMobile is also reporting that select S6 models will release with Sennheiser earbuds to help showcase the improved audio experience of the S6.
"These earbuds appear to have a design similar to Apple Earpods and the headphones which come bundled with the Amazon Fire Phone," the publication writes. "Our sources tell us that these headphones will also feature Apt-X, which might mean that they are Bluetooth wireless headphones."
So look for more on Samsung's Galaxy S6 as we look forward to an announcement expected later next month.
