There is a lot of interest in Android L or Lollipop (Android 5.0) updates specifically for the HTC M7, M8, LG G3 and Sony Xperia. We wrote about upgrades to those devices that last week, but here are some updates to that information. It is good news for owners of the LG G3, bad news for the owners of the HTC One M7 and M8, and no news for the Sony Xperia Z series.
The first is some bad news for owners of HTC One M8 and the HTC One M7. These are devices that had the "purer" version of Android without HTC Sense customization, and we stated last week that owners of the M7 and M8 devices should be eligible for downloading their Android Lollipop update sometime this week. There was even some confirmation with a tweet from HTC US Vice President of product management, Mo Versi.
According to the International Business Times, the Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware update for the HTC One M8 and the HTC One M7 Google Play editions has been postponed, and this is because of a request from Google. The IBTimes also stated that Google is requesting for another software version and HTC is awaiting approval before the update will get an official release. Mo Versi from HTC sent out another tweet about the Lollipop update, and this time it was about the delay of Android 5.0 for HTC One Google Play Editions (GPEs).
So far, there is no word on why Google decided to request another software version or when the new Lollipop update will be approved.
As for the LG G3, there is some good news. According to Android Headlines, LG has announced that the Lollipop update for the G3 will roll out to South Korean customers this week. This update will hit all of the major carriers of that country, including LG U+, SK Telecom, and KT, and could arrive very early this week.
Considering that LG is a Korean company, it shows a lot of confidence to have the company roll out their update in their own country. It probably will not be long before the Lollipop update rolls out to the rest of the world. We've already discussed last week about the rollout in Poland and Belgium.
As for the Sony Xperia line, there really hasn't been any change of plan since last week. We reported that Android 5.0 will be headed to the Z Series, which include: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact, and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The first that will receive this update is the Z Ultra Google Play edition, with other devices receiving Lollipop updates in early 2015.
