While many parents across the country are dressing their kids up in their favorite Halloween costumes and get them ready for the traditional trick-or-treating, there are a number of parents opting for a recent trend in safer and more efficient methods of gathering treats for the holiday: Trunk-or-Treat.
Trunk-of-Treating involves cars, trucks, or vans gathered together in a parking lots, displaying opened trunks full of candy and holiday-appropriate decorations. Costumed children walk around to each vehicle and can still say trick-or-treat, but the whole thing is just much safer than letting your kids walk around in the dark.
Often times, these trunk-or-treat events are held in church parking lots, allowing another level of safety and security. Many churches are expanding the idea to make an all-out fall festival of these events with live music, hay rides, games, and an opportunity to witness to the community.

By far, the best way to find craft ideas for any project is through Pinterest. You can search on the good old fashioned search bar, or you can find certain trunk-or-treat-related boards and follow them. Some great expamples we found here include set-ups that look like Emerald City, a spider's web, Jonah and the Whale where the trunk is the whale's mouth, and even an all-out fall harvest theme.
Twitter/Facebook
Through the use of hashtags (#), you can find just about anything on social media these days. Both Twitter and Facebook use hashtags to organize topics, and it's a great way to find what you're looking for. Try #trunkortreat on either site, and go that extra step to search Facebook for local church-sponsored trunk-or-treat events in your area if you don't already have one lined up.
YouTube
If you're more into video, check out YouTube for some good ideas on decorations. Many videos show the steps involved in the decoration process, so those can be especially helpful. You can find some pretty serious decorators out there if you know where to look.
Specialty Websites
Some blogs are dedicated to holiday decorations and crafts, and many have a wealth of information on decorating your trunk, including many step-by-step instructional articles. Tipjunkie has some great ideas in a top-16 post, and one on LDSliving.com lists 50 ideas.
