One of the most difficult and most neglected topics that plague Christian men these days is that of pornography and infidelity. A new national study by the non-profit Proven Men Ministries shows that an alarming number of Christian men surveyed say that pornography and infidelity are a real problem in their lives.
The 2014 survey, conducted on 388 self-identified Christian adult men, showed that 77% of those between the ages of 18 and 30 years old view pornography at least monthly and 32% of those men admit to being addicted.
Even more shocking is the statistic showing that 35% of the married Christian men surveyed had an extra-marital affair while married.
"These statistics knock the wind right out of you," states Joel Hesch, the founder of Proven Men Ministries and sponsor of the survey. "They also confirm what we already know; that there definitely is a problem with pornography and affairs among Christian men and that they are starving for the church to step forward with solutions."
Even those men who identify themselves as born-again Christians -- those who have made a conscious dedication to Jesus in their adult lives -- have strikingly similar results on this survey. While 95% say they've viewed pornography at one time or another, 44% say they've viewed pornography at work in the last 90 days. On top of that, 31% admit to having a sexual affair while married.
"The purpose of the survey was not to point fingers," Hesch assures, "But to get a better grasp on the scope of the problem in light of ready access to pornography in this Internet era."
Hesch set up Proven Men Ministries to find a solution to what he says is "one of the biggest unaddressed problems in the church."
