Minecraft for Xbox One, PS4: Horse Update and New Patch Coming Soon

Console Minecraft players will soon have the chance to tame and ride horses, donkeys, and mules as the popular sandbox game will finally introduce the equine extras in Patch 1.6 for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.

First up, though, is a crucial update that allows the console versions of the game to get a bit closer to the Java PC/Mac version. This update will fix several bugs and add a copy-save feature that allows players to easily duplicate their game worlds. The bug-squashing patch was first announced via development studio 4J Studios' Twitter account.

Minecraft's PC/Mac version is currently on Patch 1.8 that was released on September 2nd of this year. Console versions, however, are mostly stuck back at the equivalent to the PC's Patch 1.3. While this is typical of most console ports, fans are getting restless.

"We're now working on an update for all Minecraft console editions to move up to the equivalent of Java 1.6.4 version," the company tweeted. "It may take some time!"

Despite this extra development time, the horse update has officially been confirmed by 4J as a patch that will come after this bug-fixing update. This "horse patch" will also add hardened clay, carpets, and coal blocks to the console versions.

More tweets from 4J suggest that even more content from the PC/Mac version will be entering the world of the console versions, including Patch 1.4's Wither boss and Patch 1.5's Nether Quartz and other Redstone-related goodies.

In addition to the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 development of Minecraft, 4J Studios is also working on a PS Vita version of the game for later this year.
