The Minnesota Viking is scheduled to play against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday, September 21, in Week 3 of 2014 NFL. The Vikings (1-1) vs. Saints (0-2) football game will begin at 10 a.m. PT at the Mercedez-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game can be watched online through live stream below (free with subscription), and on FOX Television Network.
On Wednesday, the Vikings have decided to place running back Adrian Peterson on an exempt list, deactivating his status on the team until his legal problems are resolved.
The Pro-Bowler and 2012 MVP was deactivated for the game against the New England Patriots after being indicted on a charge of reckless or negligent injury to a child. The Vikings decided to activate Peterson for this week, but came under heavy criticism, including a call from Minnesota governor to suspend Peterson.
Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf issued a team statement, explaining how they came to the latest decision and the will and desires of the team:
"While we were trying to make a balanced decision yesterday, after further reflection we have concluded that this resolution is best for the Vikings and for Adrian. We want to be clear: we have a strong stance regarding the protection and welfare of children, and we want to be sure that we get this right. At the same time we want to express our support for Adrian and acknowledge his seven-plus years of outstanding commitment to this organization and this community. Adrian emphasized his desire to avoid further distraction to his teammates and coaches while focusing on his current situation; this resolution accomplishes these objectives as well.
"We will support Adrian during this legal and personal process, but we firmly believe and realize this is the right decision. We hope that all of our fans can respect the process that we have gone through to reach this final decision."
Having to play without Peterson, the Vikings will need to adjust the team roster in order to cover the running back hole. Wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson put down a spectacular performance, with 102 yards on just three carries, including a 67-yard touchdown run, in Week 1 against the St. Louis Rams.
While Patterson may be able to put up the same level of running plays, the Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel must improve his passes, as he threw four interceptions in Week 2's lose against the New England Patriots.
The Saints will attempt to break their two game losing streak since the opener. While Drew Bree made two touchdown passes to wide receiver Jimmy Graham, the Saints lost to the Browns, as Cleveland's defense played just enough to win the game. The Saints also lost their opener to the Atlanta Falcons 37-34 in Week 1.
According to their performances, the Saints defense must improve or else face making the offense play catch up in every matchup.
