"19 Kids and Counting" patriarch Jim Bob Duggar recently revealed the most important skill every son- in- law should have as he anticipates the marriage of his daughter Jessa, 21, to fiance Ben Seewald.
On the latest episode of the hit TLC show, Jim Bob focused his attention on Ben, teaching the young man the importance of providing for his daughter.
Although Ben is currently living in the Duggar's guest house free of charge, Jim Bob makes sure he stays busy and earns his keep by honing his home-improvement ability--a skill Jim Bob believes is extremely important.
Despite Ben's inexperience, Jim Bob, who has strong ideas about providing for his family, spent hours patiently showing his future son-in-law the art of woodworking, painting--and even how to clean the family's many bathrooms.
Jim Bob's willingness to teach Ben how to become a master of the DIY reflect his love for the young man, which he verbalized to People Magazine following Ben and Jessa's engagement:
"Ben asked me about asking Jessa to get engaged," Jim Bob told People. "We had already talked to Jessa about this and was 100 percent on board. I told him that Michelle and I were in agreement and supportive."
The Duggar parents decided to allow Ben to move in with them following the couple's engagement, as he lived about four hours away.
"It has been really good. He has been able to spend a lot more time with Jessa and our family. We have a guesthouse in front of our house, with a shower and everything, separate from the main house," Jim Bob told People at the time.
Jim Bob said his future son-in-law would work for him as he continues college courses online, and then perhaps join him in the real-estate business.
"After Michelle and I were talking about it, we have so many projects to do that we need help for - everything from construction projects to keeping the grass mowed to putting roof on a building, paperwork and things like that - and we asked him if he would be interested in moving up here so that Jessa and his relationship could be really accelerated. He was all for it and his parents were happy about it."
Jim Bob often stresses the importance of financial stability and living debt-free, as he and Michelle only make purchases if they have enough cash, and saved enough money to make investments in things like rental and commercial property.
Ben and Jessa, who got engaged in August, hope to be married November 1.
