The faith-based movie trend continues, as film based on the Biblical story of the prodigal son titled "Wayward: The Prodigal Son" will hit theatres Nov. 7.
The film is based on Jesus' parable about a son who abandoned his family in order to live a lifestyle of fame and sin. He loses all that he has and returns home, hoping to be taken in as a servant. However, as the prodigal arrives home, his father runs out to greet him and throws a party because the son that was lost has now been found.
"Wayward" focuses on the story of Tyler McMillan, played by Landon Henneman, who is the prodigal son of the film. McMillan is described as a "pampered rich kid" who already has everything, gets more, then loses it all.
We all know someone who has gone astray," said Cedar Fort Entertainment's Acquisition Manager Spencer Harden in a statement, according to a Christian Today report, "Every parent hopes it won't happen to their child, but they grow up with minds of their own."
Writer and director Rob Diamond revealed why he chose to turn the beloved story into a film in a recent press release.
"I made 'Wayward: The Prodigal Son" because the Biblical story has always touched a deep place in my soul," Diamond said.
"I've been on the receiving end of forgiveness many times for the mistakes I've made in my life. It's the perfect story of love, redemption and forgiveness."
Although the plotline will stick to the traditional story, there will be "a few surprises," most likely based on Scripture, said Diamond. Not only did he work behind the scenes to write, produce, and direct the story, Diamond also worked in front of the camera, playing McMillan's father, Rob.
The Christian filmmaker said that he made the movie for "my Maker first and foremost, but I also made it for anyone who loves stories of redemption and for those seeking some hope and forgiveness in their lives or the lives of the people they cherish most who might be hurting inside."
