One team wants to see their momentum and new strength continue, while another is trying to find direction when the Dallas Cowboys meet the Tennessee Titans at LP Field in Nashville at 1 pm on Sunday. The Cowboys are trying to avoid falling into a deeper hole when they meet the Titans this weekend. Last week, Tony Romo threw three picks in an upsetting home opener loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Romo's three interceptions came in the first half and two of them resulted in San Francisco touchdowns. It really looked like the Cowboys were in trouble and the 28-17 final score could have been a lot worse. The 49ers ruled the game from start to finish. One of the only bright spots for the Cowboys offense turned out to be running back Demarco Murray, who rushed 22 times for 118 yards. He also caught caught 3 passes for another 25 yards. He coughed the ball up though, giving Dallas 4 turnovers in total.
Last week was the first time in 12 games that the Cowboys lost when Murray tallied at least 20 carries.
The Cowboys defense wasn't much better than the offense, and all the turnovers didn't do them any favors. They only mustered one sac of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, when linebacker Bruce Carter got a hold of him. The Cowboys will have to do more than that this week, if they want to have a chance against the Titans. Jake Locker is another mobile qb, and he can do damage with his arm and his legs if need be.
One bright spot for the Cowboys defensive unit i they will be getting defensive tackle Terrell McClain back this week. He was a late-game scratch versus San Francisco because of a high-ankle sprain.
The Titans looked strong going into Kansas City and beating the Chiefs 26-10 in week one, and now they want to make it the first 2-0 start since 2008. Locker went 22-33 for 266 yards, with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions, and new coach Ken Whisenhunt thinks a healthy Locker can mean a good chance at winning for the club.
Against the Chiefs, the Titans spread the ball around and amassed 405 total yards of offense. Shonn Greene rushed for 71 yards on 15 carries, while Dexter McCluster ran 9 times for 29 yards. The team's leading receiver was Justin Harris who made 3 catches for 61 yards. If the Titans can get the run going versus Dallas this weekend, it may free up Hunter and he could put up even bigger numbers this week.
On defense, the Titans only gave the Chiefs 245 yards last week, and they want to continue being stingy. Linebacker Zach Brown went down in the season opener though, and he was replaced by Zaviar Gooden. How Gooden handles Cowboys Tight End Jason Witten will be a key matchup for this one.
