The Tennessee Titans is scheduled to play against Kansas City Chiefs in their 2014 NFL regular season opening game on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. PT or 1 p.m. ET on CBS. The Titans will visit the Chiefs at the Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Fans can watch the game online through live stream below (free with subscription).
Titans have a new coach Ken Whisenhunt, who some say is the person to help QB Jake Locker improve the team's prospect for 2014. In his last post with the San Diego Chargers, he revived the career of QB Philip Rivers, who posted a passer rating of 105.5 in 2013 after consecutive seasons with a sub-90 rating. In addition, the offensive guru is most known for his role as the Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive coordinator, who helped propelled Ben Roethlisberger into the youngest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl in 2005. He was also the head coach for Arizona Cardinals.
With Whisenhunt at the helm, the Titans, the team nearing the bottom of the Around The NFL's Power Index, would still need their key players, namely Locker, to make more offensive passes and to remain healthy. In the last two years, Locker missed nine games, affecting the team's chances to get to the playoffs and to play at their highest potential with a capable QB in the pocket.
The Kansas City Chiefs have made significant changes in offensive line as Branden Albert, Geoff Schwartz and Jon Asamoah all signed major deals with other teams. Last year's No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher will replace Albert at left tackle. Quarterback Alex Smith played well last season, but he's been sacked hard and often this preseason after the offensive lines changes.
Although the Chiefs lost several key players, they still have MVP candidate Jamaal Charles, who put down 1,287 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns from rushing, 693 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns from catches.
The Chiefs and the Titans stand at about even in their offensive and defensive stats, so either team can emerge as the winner of Sunday's opener for the 2014 NFL season.
