Kirk Cameron's 'Saving Christmas', which Samuel Goldwyn Films has set for a November 14 limited theatrical release, is all about putting Christ back into Christmas. Cameron stars in the film which will refocus the modern Christmas traditions on their Biblical roots to find the true reason we celebrate.
The movie is the first title in a new three-picture deal Cameron's CAMFAM Studios has struck with Sony Music Entertainment's Nashville-based Provident Films. Saving Christmas also marks Cameron and Samuel Goldwyn teaming up again, after they scored a $33 million hit with Christian audiences on his 2008 film "Fireproof".
"For too many years Christmas has been attacked and hammered by those outside the church, and it's even changed how we think about Christmas inside the church," he said in a statement. "My hope for Saving Christmas is that families all across the country will join with my family in putting Christ back into Christmas."
Cameron says it's his intention to remind Christians that Christmas is not only a "Holy Day, but a Celebration as well."
Darren Doane, Bridgette Ridenour, David Shannon, Raphi Henley, and Ben Kientz also star in the film directed by Doane, from a script he also co-wrote with Cheston Hervey.
CAMFAM produced the film with Liberty University, which previously partnered on 2013 Cameron-written documentary "Unstoppable". Faith-based production and distribution label Provident Films also previously collaborated with Cameron, on Fireproof, Unstoppable, and Mercy Rule. The second and third films in the new CAMFAM-Provident pact will be released in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
"I've been looking for a home for my projects for a while now. We have big plans at CAMFAM Studios and wanted to have a home base. The relationship with Provident Films has been developing over the past months, and we realized they were the natural choice," Cameron said according to the Hollywood Reporter.
