The amazing dolphin known as Winter is beloved by millions around the world, as her inspiring story of recovery--thanks to a prosthetic tail--has made her a symbol of hope and perseverance after being documented in the 2011 hit family movie, "Dolphin Tale."
Now, Winter is once again returning to the big screen in Warner Bros. Pictures and Alcon Entertainment's much anticipated film, "Dolphin Tale 2."
This time, the film revisits the team of people who saved Winter's life after her elderly surrogate mother's passing in order to find her a companion so she can remain at the Clearwater Marine Hospital. Both films are based on true events that occurred at the Clearwater Aquarium in Clearwater, Fla
"Dolphin Tale 2" boasts of a star-studded cast, including Morgan Freeman, Kris Kristofferson, Ashley Judd, and Harry Connick Jr., Austin Highsmith, Nathan Gamble, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, and Austin Stowell.
"Everyone is back - the film is a little more dramatic than the first one, which is exciting. We've grown up with the audience," said Highsmith.
New additions to the cast include a baby dolphin named Hope-who was actually rescued during the wrap party for the first movie--and outspoken Christian Bethany Hamilton.
Like Winter, Hamilton, who lost her arm in a shark attack, overcame the odds to pursue her dreams, becoming a professional surfer and starring in the hit film "Soul Surfer."
"She makes an amazing cameo. She and Winter hit it off instantly," said Gamble.
"When Bethany and Winter swim together, it is some of the most magical footage in the film," added director Charles Martin Smith.
In a recent interview, Hamilton expressed her excitement about joining the cast:
"I love that [the film] is reaching out to fans with a positive message," she said.
"My whole life goal is being an encouragement for young kids as they're growing up and just to make good choice and to give back and go out and make a difference in the world."
Hamilton is quick to mention it is her deep faith in Christ that has gotten her through even the toughest of times.
"When I lost my arm, I had this in my heart that I would trust in god n omatter what came my way. I had peace that couldn't be from anything but God," she said.
"I can't help but share that Jesus Christ got me through...I am really blessed to still be able to do my talent that God has given me and share it with others."
"Dolphin Tale 2" is slated for worldwide release on September 12 of this year. You can watch the trailer here:
